Aerodynamic, and lighter than other models on the market, the 170W Fixed Solar Panel from Hard Korr allows you to harness the sun’s rays to power your adventures.
This solar panel can be used on your boat, 4WD, camper trailer or caravan as it features sleek black 17mm anodised aluminium frame that makes it 30% lighter than regular solar panels in the same category. For longevity, this unit features high-efficiency A-grade monocrystalline solar cells, with 3.2mm optically clear tempered low-iron glass for protection which is impact-resistant to guard against knocks, stones and even hail. Included is an 80 cm cable which has industry standard MC4 secure and waterproof connectors for your peace of mind. You can also mount this unit to your vehicle using the matching separately-available mounting brackets.
Topped off with a huge 10-year warranty, you can travel far and wide with free power off the grid with some help from the 170W Fixed Solar Panel from Hard Korr.
Can these panels be connected in series or parallel? If so what is the maximum series fuse rating? I am trying to determine with two of these panels connected in parallel would they require mc4 fuses added to the wiring. Thank you for any help with this and happy holidays
G'day Enzo,
You can do either, it depends if you want to double your Amps or your Voltage.
We dont have these panels instock currently to give you the max series fuse rating, but do know it far exceeds two panels.
Fusing is only really something worth considering if you want to connect 3 or more panels, and isn't required for two.
Running two of these panels in either configuration is super common, and loads of our customers have done exactly that.
Hope that helps.
Are they guaranteed to put out 10amps at 170W sunlight power?
G'day Christopher,
Solar panels don't come with a guaranteed output - there are so many physical and environmental variables that affect this, including latitude, ambient temperature, solar panel temperature, if the panels have any dust coating, partial shade, cloud cover, sun direction, tilt of the panels, quality of charge regulator, etc.
9.55A is the maximum possible output of these panels in accordance with the Standard Testing Conditions for solar panels.
How much amperage they produce will be different on any given day, and is influenced largely by the above factors.
I bought the Saber from you recently, looking to purchase & mount to the roof rack on tent. Does this come with mounting brackets?
G'day Tony,
The 170W Solar Panel doesn't come with mounting brackets, you will need to purchase them separately. We have the Hard Korr Roof Rack Mounting Brackets for Fixed Solar Panel otherwise a generic mounting kit should work.
Hi. Can i use this solar panel to charge a bluetti ac180.. it has mc4 connection. I want the panel to be outside permanently.
G'day Robert,
We don't sell Bluetti so I cant comment on compatibility sorry - just double-check the solar input specs on your unit and make sure they line up with the output specs of this pannel.
You should have any issues permanently mounting this panel outside.
How do I connect 2 panels together and maintain 12v but have the cabling then transition to a single 50amp anderson plug.
G'day Michelle,
You'll need a few extra things, the first one being a pair of MC4 multibranch connectors which you can pick up from Jaycar here, and the second being an MC4 to Anderson cable which you can find here.
You'll just need to plug the positive cables from both panels into the positive/male multibranch connector and do the same with the negative cables - have a look at this diagram as an example.
These multibranch connectors will then plug into the anderson cable, and away you go!
This will keep your panels at 12v but double the Amps, so make sure your charge regulator is rated to 30A.
Does it come with the car side plugs to fit the solar panel plug
G'day Jason,
Not sure what you mean by car side plugs sorry - this fixed panel comes as pictured. Depending on what Solar Regulator/Controller you have there is an MC4 to Anderson cable you will find in the You Might Also Like section which is what you need if your regulator has an Anderson adapter.
Car side would be what the panels plugs plug into.
G'day again Jason,
What are you plugging the panels into in your car? Is it a charger controller, or do you have a power pack with that built in?
What are the input terminals you have on whatever you're wanting to plug the solar into?
on this solar panels description it has two different pictures of two different solar panels, one being of superior technology than the other. I think its a bit misleading myself, as I nearly purchased based on the picture on the right showing shingled cells which is what i'm looking for. the website listing is; https://www.snowys.com.au/170w-fixed-solar-panel
G'day,
These are photos of the same panel, neither of which are shingled. I'm not sure what you are seeing on your end, but the photo on the right is a zoomed close-up of the top right-hand corner on a conventional 5 busbar panel.
Can you link 2 together if so what else do you need to purchase?
G'day Gary,
Yes, you can connect two of these panels together in a series. You'd need an mc4 to mc4 connector cable with a splitter to then be able to connect to your battery source/regulator. It'd be worth giving Hard Korr a call, or visiting your local jaycar or similar for some cable options to set this up.
Hardkorr 170w panel: does it have bypass diodes so the panel still performs in the shade?
G'day John,
No, it doesn't. Fixed Panels with bypass diodes will have a distinct white line across the panel, separating it into halves, which obviously allows each half to independently work at full potential if required.
Unfortunately, we don't have any panels in our range with the bypass diodes!
Would this solar panel be ridged enough to fit to 2 hours single roof racks without a platform rack as a bed.
G'day Gene,
Yes, it would. The Hard Korr 170W Fixed Solar Panel is essentially the same kind of panel you'd find on a home roof, just smaller.
Wanting to connect to my redarc through an Anderson plug.
G'day Wayne,
This panel is designed to be fix mounted to a roof rack / caravan etc, so it has MC4 connectors to keep the system waterproof. You might need a regulated panel with Anderson output for your Redarc, or if you've got a built-in regulator on your Redarc then you can get MC4 to Anderson cables, they're not something we currently carry, but I know Redarc do make them.
I cut off the MC4 plugs and replaced with an Andersen plug. It took about 10 mins and works perfectly.
Thanks for the tip Daniel, that is also an option if you've got the know-how!
Thankyou
G'day Nikki,
Yes, the 170W Fixed Solar Panel is unregulated.
Hello does this come with a Anderson connection lead.
G'day Andrew,
No it doesn't. Its a 'raw' panel as pictured and only has MC4 connectors.
Does this come with a solar charge controller?
G'day Michael,
No, the 170W Fixed Solar Panel doesn't come with a solar charge controller.
