Ward off mozzies, even on a lightweight adventure with the Backpacker Repeller from Thermacell.
This unit creates
The Backpacker also has a piezo starter to make it easy to use and comes with 3 repellent mats that each last for up to 4 hours. If you’re trekking in a tropical destination, then the Backpacker from Thermacell will repel mozzies so you can relax in peace at base camp.
Can Jetboil Jetpower gas be used with the Backpacker? If not which brand options commonly available in Australia could I be buying for this unit.
G'day,
Yep, the Jetboil, Pro:Fuel and MSR style gas canisters are compatible with this Thermacell model.
Are the 453g Coleman gas canisters usable/compatible? I use these with the Coleman Eventemp stove I purchased from you - would be good to have an additional use for them, rather than having to specially buy a hiking canister.
G'day Rob,
Unfortunately not, the Backpacker Mosquito Repeller is only compatible with hike style butane canisters that have a Lindal valve.
I can see this question has already been asked, however that was 2 years ago as of now. Is there any update to see on this? Is the stock now gen 2? If unsure, any chance of being able to confirm this? Thanks
G'day Andrew,
A great question to update this section! I've confirmed with Thermcell that all stock should be only the 2nd gen model now. This can be confirmed by the barrel on the base of the unit which now has a gold and orange ring around it, as opposed to just an orange ring on gen 1.
Any idea how they go against Qld midgies?
G'day Phil,
We've actually been asked this on one of the other Themacell repellers. Our conclusion is that these repellers have a chemical formulation for mosquitoes, so no, we don't think they'll repel or deter midgies.
Hi, do you also offer for sale the gas canister the unit needs to operate? Thought it might show up under 'you might also like', but not there. Also, the mats looks like the same kind you use with the plug in (mains powered) version of this. Are they compatible? Cheers,
G'day Kim,
We stock the gas canisters instore only, unfortunately, they cannot be shipped due to their "dangerous goods" classification. They are your standard hiking stove gas cannisters and should be available at most local outdoor stores.
The Mat Only Refills 24-Hour are the ones you need. Hope that helps.
I referring to which version/Gen is this item. pls.
G'day Soon,
These are a brand new product for us and I wasn't aware there was an older version. The stock we have is the same as the model that Thermacell have on their website so I can only assume we have the newer, current model.
Hi! There, How are you? Be a responsible seller, why don’t you check with your supplier to confirm this model is Gen 1 or Gen 2 and get back to us.... Instead of just assume it is a latest model and let us take the risk of buying it. Thanks.
According to Thermacell USA. this is a gen 1 model. Gen 2 comes with 4 mats..
G'day Soon,
Thanks for getting back to us. I'm not sure if you saw the other question someone had asked below regarding this, but we had contacted our supplier and they weren't sure on the answer to this either. I contacted them again and asked if they could reach out to Thermacell USA to find an answer for me, and it turns out these are indeed the first generation product. Apparently, the difference is something to do with how the threads are cut for attaching onto the gas cylinders, with a small number not allowing gas to pass through. Thermacell is a reputable company and if you did happen to receive a unit that doesn't function properly you're of course covered by their warranty and entitled to a refund or replacement, but after talking with them further they're confident you shouldn't have any issues. As Leor pointed out, the other difference is the number of mats supplied with the unit. What I couldn't find out is when the second generation models will be available in Australia sorry.
Its great to see Snowy did not filter out my response to confirm it is a Gen 1 model. I have the gen 1 model myself and it is working perfectly.
Is this the mark 2. the reason I ask is the mark 1 had ignition problems
G'day Michael,
I've just called our Thermacell supplier as these are brand new to us, and unfortunately, they're also brand new to the supplier and they're not too sure. The model we have is the most recent model, so I would hope that they've ironed out any issues they may have previously had.
