I am a short female at 152cms. Being able to sit up inside this swag would be a bonus - I measured that I would need a min internal height of 76.5cms. Should I get the 900 - which would be better for the lighter weight, or should I get the 1100 - for better chance of being able to sit upright inside?
G'day Jacklyn,
The 900 Bandit has an internal head height of 95cms so this should have enough room to sit up in! The main difference between the 1100 is the width, they both come out to the same head height. If you don't need the extra width, the 900 will be great and easier to carry at 2kgs lighter.
Hiya, I am tossing up between this and the Darche. How strong are the poles?. Do you have many returned?. Can you buy spare pole kits?
Hi Tom,
The new composite poles from Darche are stronger, 23Zero are in the process of upgrading their poles to Stainless Steel but not all swags have them yet.
You can certainly upgrade/replace the alloy poles, but there is nothing wrong with them. Most issues occur at the point of the swag being setup and result from people clipping the pole from one side and working across to the other, doing this creates stress on one side of the pole. If you clip evenly going back and forward from side to side you shoudln't have any problems.
Thanks Ben, Very useful info, cheers dude!
Hi, I'm comparing the Bandit 900 against the Dirty Dee 900 and noticed that the Bandit weighs 14kg and the Dee weighs 12.8kg. The Bandit has 400gsm canvas which I would have thought would be lighter than the Dee's 420gsm canvas? Are you able to tell where the extra weight comes from? Maybe a denser mattress? Thanks!
G'day Ted,
The bottom half of the Dirty Dee is significantly smaller than the top half, and probably has half the amount of canvas as the top section. Whilst the bandit does taper off abit, the bottom half is only marginally smaller than the top half. It also has full windows and zippers of all 4 sections, where the Dee does not.
hope that helps.
I am wondering what the height if the swag is from both the head end and foot end please ?
G'day David,
The crew up in our Brendal store measured this one for me, as they have it on display.
The head and foot end both taper down slightly, the head end being 74cm and the foot end being 65cm.
Bear in mind this is a guide as we dont have the ability to peg out and tension up our swags indoors like they would be set up outside, so there may be a slight difference to real-life set up.
Is the carry bag big enough to accommodate my sleeping bag and blanket in the swag rolled up. Grinds my gears that darches bags are a snug fit for their swags.
G'day Adam,
We tend to find that the carry bags are fairly generous, and will allow you to roll up your sleeping bag in the swag roll. You might be able to fit a sleeping bag and blanket (depending on how thick they are), but you won't fit a pillow inside.
I have an Oztrail Jumbo padded stretcher which is only 80cm wide. Was wondering if the 5cm overhang on the sides will be an issue with the swag on it, or should I just buy a wider stretcher? Thank you.
G'day JJ,
Yes, you can use these swags on an 80cm stretcher, you'll just have a bit of overhang, which generally doesn't cause any issues, just be sure to check the swag poles aren't under any additional strain.
Early this year I parted with a small motor home which I used to travel up to Townsville. I'm now wondering if this swag would suit me (in 70s) for a couple of nights at the farm (family camping for Christmas) and the occasional camping night between stopping at family and friends on long trips
G'day Margaret,
We do get quite a few people in their 70s purchase swags, so yes we think it will be appropriate. One thing we generally suggest with a swag is a stretcher to pop the swag on top of, as getting up from the ground can become an issue as the years' progress.
Wanting to put this on a stretcher because of bad knees
G'day Wayne,
We find that the 900mm swags tent to suit the Easy Fold Single Jumbo Stretcher best as it's 900mm by 2100mm which is almost the same as the Bandit dimensions. If you're after a little more width we do find a dew people steer towards the Darche XL 100 stretcher or the Oztent RS-1S Stretcher.
More specifically, how does this brand & model compare to your other swags and best sellers? is it worth my hard earned dollars?
G'day Jon,
We're pretty excited about the 23Zero range! We've just recently put up a few of their swags instore, the Bandit being one of them, and so far they look great. In terms of build quality and materials, I reckon it's on par with the top of the range options! As the range is fairly new, we're yet to see how they stand up to years of adventures, but honestly I dont have any doubts. I've actually got my eye on the 1100 version, and if you did decide on this swag, I think you'd go alright.
Is the mesh midge proof?
G'day Jon,
Unfortunately no, its not. There arent many swags that pass the midge test, but what you'd be looking for is No-See-Um mesh! Hope that helps.
