I know it depends on the size of the chicken, but just trying to get an idea of the right size to buy....would a whole chicken fit in this size oven and have enough room for a trivet?
G'day Gavin,
A small chicken would fit in here snugly, however, a family sized chicken would not. We would suggest going up to the 9 Quart for a larger bird.
can you use it on a induction hot plate?
G'day Ray,
Generally, Cast Iron is known to be compatible with induction cooktops.
This oven has a smooth base, so you shouldn't have any trouble.
Does the 2qt fit inside the 4.5qt camp oven for space saving storage
G'day Renee,
We've tried this one out before and can confirm that the 2Q will fit inside the 4.5Q however the lid won't quite fit back on top. We'd recommend ensuring you pop some padding, like tea towels or similar between the ovens when stacked, just to ensure any rattling doesn't crack the cast iron.
Where abouts are the ovens made
G'day Peter,
Campfire manufactures their cast iron gear in China.
What are the internal dimensions and how much height is left if using the trivet?
Hi Bob, I've got some dimensions here for you.
Internally these are 24cm in diameter at the top and this tapers down to 21cm diameter at the base. Total height is 9.5 cm without a trivet or steamer rack. The trivet measures 1cm in height giving you 8.5cm, and the steamer rack is 1.5cm high leaving you 8cm of height.
Hopefully, this gives you all the info you need.
Looking for a camp oven not made in China.
G'day Anton,
All our cast iron camp ovens are made in China. If you're wanting Aussie made our spun steel range is made locally in Adelaide.
Does the Sea-to-Summit Sigma 2 piece pot set fit inside this with the lid on? I'm not sure if the 12cm height for this camp oven is internal or external.
G'day Sam,
I've tried the Sea to Summit Sigma 2.2 Cookset and unfortunately, it sits too high in the Camp Oven for the lid to then fit.
Hi can I please get the above measurements which inlcude the castings for the handle and the loop on the lid ? Thanks
G'day Anthony,
I've just measured the Cast Iron Camp Oven 4.5 Quart and can confirm that included the handle mouldings and handle the diameter across the top is 30cm. Including the loop, in the lid, the height is 13.5cm high.
What are measurements of the 4.5 quart camp oven
G'day David,
If you click on the specifications tab the size and weight will be displayed for you. The 4.5 Quart Camp Oven is 26L x 26W x 12H cm, and it weighs 5.5kg.
Dear Leece, I'm not sure what I can bake or coke in the iron oven. I have never used it before. So if I want to bake pizza or bread in this oven but on stove and not in fire do I need for the Trivet to avoid the burning of the bottom of the pastry? I'm not sure if I can bake with this iron oven on stove at all. I want to use this iton oven for cooking and baking but I haven't got coil bbq. I have only an outside stove. Thanks
G'day Julie,
I reckon you've made a great assumption there, I would use a trivet in the Campfire Cast Iron Camp Oven 4.5 Quart if I was trying to bake in it.
Hi Guys, I'm wondering if I could use it on gas stove?
G'day Julie,
Yes, you can use a Campfire Cast Iron Camp Oven 4.5 Quart on a gas stove as a pot.
is it big enough to cook a small roast and vegies for 3 people
G'day Lindy,
I've just had a good look at one of the Campfire Cast Iron Camp Oven 4.5 Quarts that we've got down on the shop floor. Based on my own eating habits and portion sizes (I eat like a pig), I reckon you'll be safe with one of these for your 3 person roast with veggies.
Just wondering if the 4.5 quart camp oven fits inside the 9 quart camp oven to take up less space? Cheers
G'day Tom,
We wish it did, but unfortunately, the tab which the handle attaches to and the handle itself prevent the 4.5qt from fitting inside the 9qt Campfire Cast Iron Camp Oven.
