Roan cradely 2P hiking tent 1 answer
Would this tent be suitable for setting up in the snow? What makes this tent a 4 season tent?
Stephanie - Takone, TAS(8 months ago)
G'day Stephanie,
The 4 season rating comes from Roman themselves, we don't necessarily know what their parameters are for determining this. Generally 4 season tents have a higher waterhead rating, solid material on the tent inner, and a more structured frame system to deal with snow load, but there are no testing standards or guidelines for how or when a company can claim certain things.
At a glance, the Roman has the 3rd pole which does add a geodesic element & could make everything stronger, my only concern is that the frame is external and creates a box over the front door for the snow to sit in when it falls. You wouldn't have any natural snow shedding off the canopy, and you would have to manually move the snow load.
The tent inner is also largely mesh, which is excellent for ventilation but not so great if you we're hoping for a solid tent inner. It won't really affect warmth, just more so wind if you're expecting to be in windy places.
Hope that helps.

Roan crudely 2P hiking tent 1 answer
What is the wind rating on this tent
Stephanie - Takone, TAS(8 months ago)
G'day Stephanie,
There's no wind rating provided with this tent. Generally tents aren't tested for wind ratings unless they are very high-end technical tents designed for mountaineering and use above the snow line. This tent is more of an entry-level hiking tent which should be suitable for the average year round hiking trips in Australia, but not necessarily suitable for extreme conditions.

Roman cradle 21 answer
Hi, is this tent free standing? Also would you say this is better than the Spartan 2 tent? Cheers
Dean - TAS(10 months ago)
G'day Dean,
Yep, this sure is a free-standing tent, so you shouldn't have any issues with platform hiking for example. In terms of comparison with the Spartan 2, I wouldn't say one was better than the other necessarily. The materials are pretty much on par with the Spartan having slightly thicker poles, and the Roman has the advantage of the higher waterhead rating. For the most part, they'll both perform fairly equally and weigh the same. The Spartan does have a unique frame construction which can throw some people off, but it does allow the interior space to be more open at head height.
Both tents have had pretty great feedback so far, the Roman tent having less overall as its fairly new to us.
Hope that helps.

on V stakes1 answer
how many V stakes are included with the tent? there are only 3 stakes in corresponding images
Behrouz - Sydney, NSW(11 months ago)
G'day Behrouz,
We don't currently have any stock of this tent here at the moment for me to check, but hiking tents on average will come with 8-10 pegs to cover the 4 corners, the vestibules, and any guy ropes. The product image is to display what the pegs look like, and isn't a suggestion that there are only 3 pegs included. Hope the helps!

seams taping and exact weight3 answers
Hi two questions: 1. are the tent's seams factory taped to ensure waterproofing? 2. how much is exact total weight of the whole tent? there are so different values like 3.1, 3.0. 2.9 and 2.8 kg through diverse retailers (if possible send me balance image when weighting) Thanks
Behrouz - Sydney, NSW(11 months ago)
G'day Behrouz,
1. Yes, we have checked the fly, and can confirm that the seams are factory sealed.
2. The exact weight is 2.8kg per our site, the orange tick next to the weight means that our staff team have physically weighed and verified this
Leece - Snowys(11 months ago)
excuse me! "Yes, we have checked the fly, and can confirm that the seams are factory sealed" does mean groundsheet's seams are not sealed?
behrouz - Sydney, NSW(11 months ago)
G'day again Behrouz,
When you say groundsheet, I assume you're referring to the tent floor? The tent's inner itself isn't seam sealed, like the majority of other tents, however, the flooring is with a 5000mm water head rating.

Roman cradle 2p tent1 answer
How heavy is the entire set of pegs that come with this tent? Just wondering if you could save weight with a separate ultralight set.
Matt - Merimbula, NSW (12 months ago)
G'day Matt,
We don't currently have one of these unboxed or set up to be able to weigh the pegs for you. Based on similar tent pegs in similar tents, we'd guess that the pegs weigh in at about 100g total, so you could save a little weight, but not a whole lot.

Stuffsack1 answer
Is the bag waterproof?
Charlotte - Old Bar, NSW(12 months ago)
G'day Charlotte,
Its not waterproof, no. You'd be ok for protection against a light shower but in heavy rain it would eventually seep through, with the seams and opening.

Tent entry (Roman Cradle 2)1 answer
Does this tent have entry from both sides, or does one person potentially have to climb over another to get into the tent?
Nathan - Horsham, VIC (1 year ago)
G'day Nathan,
The Cradle 2 is dual entry from either side, via the vestibules. It's basically a flipped mirror image. Hope that helps!
