4 Season 1 answer
Hi - would this be a true 4 season tent? What makes it a 4 season - im to believe 4 season tents have thicker walls so would it be the 75D nylon? I’m looking for a 3 person tent for Tasmania for myself and my girls so need it for potential snow. Already broken my budget with the rest of the gear and so far this one is standing out price wise and it’s weight, but I don’t know much about Roman gear. Thoughts?
Holly - Cygnet, TAS (9 months ago)
G'day Holly,
The 4 season rating comes from Roman themselves, we don't necessarily know what their parameters are for determining this. Generally 4 season tents have a higher waterhead rating, solid material on the tent inner, and a more structured frame system to deal with snow load.
At a glance the Roman has the 3rd pole which does ad a geodesic element which would no doubt make everything stronger, my only concern is that the frame is external and kind of creates a box over the front door for the snow to sit in when it falls. You wouldn't have any natural snow shedding off the canopy, and I don't think it would be an issue to brush it out, that's just something to bear in mind.
The tent inner is also largely mesh, which is excellent for ventilation but not so great if you we're hoping for a solid tent inner. It won't really effect warmth, just more so wind if you're expecting to be in windy places.
In terms of what other options we have in the range, there isn't a huge amount that also ticks your pack size & weight boxes, and budget boxes. I'd say as long as you are mindful of the above points, it's going to be a great option all round.

entrance poles1 answer
Can the entrance flap to the tent be held out on poles (similar to the Coleman Evo tents) Is there any O rings on the flap to enable that?
Elisabeth - Casino(12 months ago)
G'day Elisabeth,
I've double checked for you, and unfortunately there are no eyelets on the entrance flap, so you can't set it up as a mini covered space. You could possibly add your own eyelets to achieve this, but the fabic may need some re-inforcement.
