The Nomad 2P is a lightweight tent for the solo hiker who likes the extra room, or the adventurous duo on your weekends away.
A vestibule on each side allows you to stash your gear outside of your sleeping area, while the two generously sized doors make it easy to get in and out – especially for two people. This tent is designed to pack up small, so it has shorter section pole lengths so that you can fit it into your pack for easy transport.
The interior is made from No-See-Um mesh which provides lots of ventilation and will also keep insect out of your space. The polyester fly has a UVTex coating and seam sealing which will protect it from UV rays and create a weather-resistant shelter.
And you can keep your phone, keys or headtorch out of the way in the internal pockets in this tent. For overnight or short trips, the OZtrail Nomad 2P is a simple and lightweight choice.
My poles broke, the tent itself is still perfect. Can I get replacement poles?
G'day Renae,
You may be able to pick some up from Oztrail directly. Your best bet is to shoot them an email to:
spareparts@adventureoperations.com
Alternatively, they should be a relatively easy mend using a Pole Repair Kit - check out How to Repair a Broken Tent Pole.
Why is there a difference between weight and min. weight? How is the weight saving achieved?
G'day Mike,
Weight saving is achieved by leaving all non-essential components at home, so the only thing you would take generally is the tent inner and whatever pegs needed to peg that out.
No fly, guy ropes, or extra pegs.
Every brand calculates their minimum weight differently, but this is the general gist.
Hope that helps.
Hi, can you set up the tent with the fly in place or do you need to erect the inner tent then put the fly on after? Is it two flexible spars and six pegs as min hold down?
G'day Don,
Unfortunately, the Nomad 2 is not a multi-pitch tent, meaning the tent requires the inner to be erected before the fly can be in use.
It also is NOT a free-standing tent, which means every single peg point and guy rope have to be pegged out in order for the tent to stand. The frame and base pegs is not enough to support this tent.
If you are wanting free-standing tent options, you'll need to look at dome style tents, as opposed to tunnel or dart shapped tents.
Does the fly zip up or is it Velcro? Thanks
G'day Craig,
There are zippers on the fly with a velcro rain gusset flap over the zipper.
N/A
G'day Russell,
There isn't a specific footprint designed for the Nomad 2 tent. You could use the Zempire Zeus Footprint with some modifications to shape.
Hi my wife and I are planning to hike the Great North Walk Sydney to Newcastle in June of this year (assuming National parks open for camping during this pandemic) Would this tent be warm enough? Is there a lightweight ground sheet you could recommend to matchup with this tent for extra insulation? Cheers
G'day Matthew,
The Nomad 2 Hike Tent has a predominantly mesh inner, so it might be a little chilly in the middle of winter. If you've got a good sleep system you should be ok, but it might be worth considering a tent with a little more solid fabric internally. There isn't a specific tarp/groundsheet for this tent, but you could use the Zempire Zeus Footprint with some degree of modification.
Hi, contemplating adding the sea to summit dry bag to my order, to store this tent while on the back of my bike. Would it fit in the 10l bag? Dimensions look close. Maybe too close... Cheers!
G'day Ben,
We've tested this out for you instore and the 13L Sea to Summit Lightweight Dry Sack is your best bet!
Hi Love this tent. It’s the perfect solution especially if you only use it for sleeping in. The width of this tent is 135cm but I’ve read that it tapers at one end. What is the width at the foot end? Also is there a similar tent to this that doesn’t taper? I would like to fit my aerobed mattress in it. I do have a single but it isn’t long enough. Would prefer a double to fit but it won’t. It’s 137cm wide. Just s tad wider. Cheers
G'day Russell,
The Nomad 2 Hiking Tent probably isn't really the right option for you sorry. It tapers down to approximately 80cm at the foot end pole and then tapers a little more to the foot box itself. These are designed for lightweight hike mats, and not really aerobeds. If you're not needing to carry the tent in a backpack there are probably some better options we can recommend. Just send us an email with the type of camping you generally do and how many people the tent is for so we can make some recommendations.
Hi. Will a Zempire Monstamat Single fit the Nomad 2 hiking tent?
G'day Scott,
Unfortunately, as the tapered end goes dow to 55cm, you wont be able to fit a Monstamat in the Nomad 2.
Just spent a couple of nights in this tent and the Monstamat single. It fits, no problem. The tent is wide enough to accommodate the mattress at the narrow end of the tent. Perfect for the single sleeper.
Hey, I was wondering how much the pegs weigh and if it would be worth purchasing lighter pegs to cut the weight a bit. Thanks
G'day Heath,
Oztrail doesn't give an exact weight for the pegs supplied with the Nomad 2 but they are quite small and lightweight (approximately 80g-100g). You could replace them with some slightly lighter pegs but to be honest you probably won't save yourself too much weight.
how many pegs does it need as i will need sand pegs
G'day James,
We don't currently have a Nomad 2 available to double check how many pegs they are supplied with. However, based on the shape of the tent and the peg points pictured you would need 16 pegs for the tents itself and may a couple of spares for the guy ropes.
I can’t see from the photos whether the side of the fly unrolls all the way down. It looks like it doesn’t....
G'day Claire,
The Nomad 2 Hike Tent fly comes down to the within a few centimetres of the ground. The photo is showing the door in the fly rolled up, when it is closed it comes quite close to the ground.
Is there a spot to hang lantern / light from inside this tent? Thanks
G'day Glen,
The Nomad 2 Hike Tent doesn't have a lantern hanger spot inside, but it has some side stow pockets you might be able to pop a head torch in to.
Hi Would a Zempire Speedy Stretcher Bed fit inside this tent? Thanks
G'day Kate,
The Nomad 2 is Hike tent so it's not really designed to be high enough to fit a Zempire Speedy Stretcher Bed. If you're wanting to sleep on a stretcher you probably need to look at a larger 3-4 person dome tent.
Will this tent be able to stand on it's own without having to get pegged?
G'day Arik,
I'm hoping you may have one of these set up and can tell me if this tent will fit one regular and one large Sea to Summit Ultralight Sleeping Mat side by side?
G'day Jemma,
I reckon you'll just be able to squeeze a regular and large Sea to Summit Ultralight Sleeping Mat into the Oztrail Nomad 2 Hike Tent but would suggest that you'd be right up shoulder to shoulder with each other and the walls.
Could you tell me whether the exped megamat 10 will fit in this foot print. It's is an odd shape and hard to judge L197 x w77 x h 10cm
G'day Bruce,
Your Exped Megamat 10 LXW will fit inside the Oztrail Nomad 2 Hike Tent but like you said, the odd shape does mean that you lose a bit of room and it goes virtually right to the edges, so just make sure you peg your tent out nice and taut.
Hi, would a double oz trail leisure mat wit in this? Thanks
G'day Lisa,
The Oztrail Leisure Mat double won't fit in the Oztrail Nomad 2 due to the shape of the footprint of the tent. The Nomad 2 is a hiking tent so is best suited to fit 2 single hiking mats inside it that will taper toward the foot end.
Hi, I'm looking for a tent for my son to use when he goes on brigade camps. How long does this take to set up? And is it suitable as a year round tent in Southeast Qld?
G'day Kim,
It should take 10-15 minutes to set up the Oztrail Nomad 2 Hike Tent, and yes tt is suitable year-round in Southeast Qld.
Hello, I am a first time tent buy and was considering this tent but am concerned about the lack of hydrostatic rating, is this really important? The product is advertised as waterproof and I imagine the hydrostatic rating would be worse than the more expensive tents that advertise their rating but how important is this. Would this tent still keep you dry in a heavy storm provided water isn't pooling around the site? Perhaps I should just pay double and get the companion hiker 2 that everyone seems to love but is it really twice the tent
G'day Frank,
It might sound a little bit cliché but like most things, with tents, you get what you pay for. The Oztrail Nomad 2 Hike Tent is a great value tent for the price. The lack of a Waterhead rating doesn't mean that it doesn't have one, just that it's never been tested. Going for a tent with a Waterhead rating will give you some peace of mind about the sort of protection you'll get from rain. We've written a great blog in this that might be helpful to you picking a tent. You can read that blog here.
As I cannot tell from the odd shape of the base ,could you advise can I fit a darche 900 in this tent
G'day Shannon,
If you place your Darche 900 Mattress at the top end of the tent, almost touching the wall, then it will fit into the Oztrail Nomad 2 Hike Tent with a good few inches spare at the foot end.
I’m trying to gauge vestibule space in comparison to others? Also wondering about waterhead ratings, again for comparison purposes. Regards.
G'day Jo,
I've just had a quick look at one of the Oztrail Nomad 2 Hike Tents we've got in store. The outer dimensions are 135 x 250 cm. As for the Waterhead rating, these tents have never been formally tested to give a figure to this rating but Oztrail do guarantee that it's 100% waterproof, so if you have any issues, we can take it up with them for you!
This this tent more suited to one person or would two people be comfortable sleeping in it?
G'day Stephanie,
As with all hiking tents, the person capacity is tight because every cm of space is used to conserve weight, but it is possible to fit two. It just depends on how cosy and snug you'd like to be.
