As this is a more streamlined pack would it be an ok size for a kid?

Yes, we think this should be fine for most kids, obviously depending on the age. Looking at the size I'd say it should suit from around age 10 and up, depending on how tall they are.

I could only try this out with an empty bladder obviously, but the Camelbak Crux 3L seems to fit in the Patriot just fine. I can only assume the reference to a 2L bladder would be referring to Caribbee's own branded bladders.
