A popular gaiter for any outdoor activity - the Sea to Summit Quagmire eVent Gaiters offers an incredibly comfortable fit, and reliable protection from scrub, snow and mud.
Durable eVent® upper fabric provides superior breathability and moisture protection, while a tough 1000-denier nylon base delivers extra durability where needed, sealing snugly around your boots. The 50mm hook-and-loop closure on the front also provides superior fit adjustment and shin protection.
Finished with alloy and stainless steel hardware, inner ankle scuff pads, and a replaceable foot strap - the Quagmire eVent Gaiters offer reliable and durable protection on any trail.
Which of the Quagmire gaiters (Event or Canvas) would be better for doing Kokoda Track in PNG in terms of durability and breathability.
G'day Chris,
I'd go with the eVent for breathability. The canvas gaiters wont breath at all, and theres no real difference in durability between the two.
Hope that helps!
My measurements are right in the middle ish! What size would you recommend? 43-44cm length 42.5-43cm top calf 40-41cm mid calf
G'day Martin,
Looking at those measurements a Large should be a snug fit. If you are wearing thick clothing underneath and want to cover your shoes or boots or want a bit extra room to be safe I would go with the Extra-Large.
I watched the Snowy's video and used your calf/leg size chart to determine my size. My measurements are mid-calf 35, top-calf 34 and length 38. So by the chart I should choose Small. The Sea2Summit website uses shoe size, mine is EUR 42 (Scarpa boots) and indicates by shoe size to chose medium or Large. I am a bit confused as to which to chose. Help!
G'day Gary,
I discuss this exact issue in the video around the 8:11-minute mark - shoe size should only be a consideration if the size of your foot puts you in a significantly larger gaiter size than your calf measurements.
The gaiters are fully adjustable, so if you are specifically needing extra protection over your boot and laces, and you want the gaiter to come down lower over your boot - go with the larger size.
If you prefer to have a trimmer fit with the fabric over your leg, and it doesnt matter if the gaiters sit up abit higher on your boot, go with the calf size.
Perhaps the medium may be a good compromise between the two!
Hey guys I need some help with sizing, my calf is only 33cm even with pants on is the small going to be too big? Can that 35cm size guide be cinched in slightly more? Do the tops of the gaiter need to be tight against the skin? Will they rub or fall down if they are slightly loose? They’ll be used for wet weather, snow showing and snake/scrub protection. Thanks.
G'day Nicole,
The gaiters have an adjustable webbing strap they can be pulled as tight as you want. The sizing is just a guide based on best comfort with the amount of physical canvas, but 33cm won't be a problem at all, and you'll be able to get just the right fit for performance and comfort.
Hi guys my calves have a 50cm circumference. Do you have anything that will go around my tree stumps
Hi Michael,
I can see you've asked the same question twice so I'll just answer it here. I think you'll find that the Quagmire Event Gaiters are a little too small for you based on your measurements. Depending on your calf shape you might find that ankle gaiters will suit as they attach around the lower calf/achilles. Or alternately it might be worth exploring some from Outdoor Research, we can't get our hands on them anymore, but from memory, their Crocodile Gore-Tex Gaiters tend to fit larger calves, you might have to get some from a US-based store though as I don't think they're brought into Australia at the moment.
Hey guys, are the gaiters sold as a pair or singles?
G'day Jim,
The Quagmire Event Gaiters are sold as a pair.
G’day, My calf is about 39cm tight to the skin. Would the medium be comfortable for me or should I go up to the large? Thanks
G'day Xavier,
The Quagmire Event Gaiters Medium fit calf circumference of 39-42cm so theoretically they should be ok for you, but if you wanted to make sure they won't be too tight you could go up to the Large size.
Super indecisive about what gaiters to get for climbing Mt. Kili which has all sorts of terrain.
G'day Mr/Mrs Indecisive,
You're definitely on the right track looking at Quagmire Gaiters, both the Canvas or Event will do the trick. The canvas is likely to be a little more durable over time, but the Event will be a little more breathable. So you could choose either option, I personally think the Event is handy with the waterproof lining.
Will these work with trail runners, or just boots?
G'day Boris,
The Quagmire Event Gaiters will work with trail runners as long as there is a lace at the toe end to hook the front attachment point to the shoe. We do also stock Trail Running Gaiters if they're more suitable, you can find them here.
Does these offer the same amount of protection as the Quagmire Canvas Gaiters?
G'day Jason,
Both styles of the Quagmire Gaiters are the same design and length so from a size point of view they will. The material they're made from is obviously a little different with canvas being a little thicker so they will be potentially a little more durable over time with heavy use. Both models have the same bottom section which is reinforced to prevent wearing from boot scuffing.
Are the tops of the gaiters fastened by Velcro or a buckle? The two photos show different types
G'day Glenda,
All the Quagmire gaiters use a velcro adjustment system around the cuff. They have changed from a fixed black nylon buckle to a stronger, quick release alloy buckle though as seen in the last image above. I'll see if our web team are able to update the other images so there's no more confusion!
I need some help picking the right size gaiter for me. I currently wear a size 12 US mens scarpa boot however my skinny legs measure a calf size of only 35cm. Researching sea to summit gaiter sizes some recommend my shoe size should fit a large size gaiter however my calf measure suits a small size. Im approximately 6ft in height. What size gaiter would you recommend for I need? Thanks Snowys
G'day Steve,
I reckon you're best off going for a large rather than looking smaller as often the Sea to Summit Gaiters tend to be a little smaller than the sizing charts suggest.
Hi there, Do these offer any level of protection from snake bites compared to the standard quagmire gaiters? Regards, Ray
G'day Ray,
Your best bet for preventing snake bites is by using the Sea to Summit Quagmire Canvas Gaiter, although they're not able to 100% guarantee you won't be bitten. Sea to Summit have made a handy little PDF that will help you prevent any nasty bites. You can find that PDF here.
Hi, i have short legs, 30cm from ankle to bottom of knee so would these quagmire gaiters be too long or do they come in diff height sizes as well as calf sizes. Which ones should i go for?
G’day Mick,
The Quagmire Event Gaiters only come in general sizes. What’s important though is that the gaiter fits around your calf snugly but not too tight.
The small size has a calf circumference of 37-40cm and is 32H cm high. So height wise it should be ok, but definitely give your calves a measure and if they are bigger than that, you might need to consider a different model.
A shorter option is the Spinifex Ankle Gaiters by Sea to Summit, these ones are 22cm high but only come in one size which you can look at here.
Hi team, trying to decide between Quagmire and Quagmire eVent. From the details I read that Quagmire is not waterproof and is only water resistant. The eVent is fully waterproof. Do I need my gaiters to be water proof? When you say Quagmire is water resistant, are they likely to get wet and heavy? I am buying these primarily for Green Gully Track in NSW, with a view for use in the future (Overland Track, etc). Please help me choose.
G'day JB,
For hot harsh environments, you're better off with canvas gaiters such as the Quagmires as they are a little tougher. They will get a little heavier when wet, but it shouldn't be very noticeable. For wet and cold environments, you would want the waterproof Quagmire eVent gaiters.
Since both those locations that you're planning on hiking in are on the cold/rainy side - the Quagmire eVent gaiters look to be the better option for you.
I'm considering buying theses but need some help as to how to choose what size to buy?
G'day Tracy,
With gaiters you go by calf size, so crack out a tape measure and measure your calves and then compare it to the sizes these gaiters come in.
For calf circumferences these gaiters come in Small - 37-40cm, Medium 39-42cm, Large 41-45cm, and X-Large 43-47cm.
You want to make sure they're a firm fit so that they’re effective. If you’re still unsure you can give us a call or get back to us and we can give you a hand selecting the best size for you.
