Hi guys, you may not be able to answer this - am wondering if adding the stretcher to the RS 1 swag will make any difference to cold/warmth for camping in alpine conditions? I am wondering if allowing cold air under the swag will make it colder or lifting it off the ground will make it warmer? Thank so much
G'day Bec,
If you have a decent insulating mattress, then having the swag up on a stretcher can be warmer.
In the middle of winter, especially when it is very very cold, the ground can act as a heat sink - even with a decent mattress.
The air itself can be a bit warmer than the ground temp, which is why using a stretcher can help, but if you dont have any insulation with a mat you'll be quite cold.
The mattress the RS-1 comes with probably wouldn't cut the mustard for alpine conditions, so you could upgrade if you haven't already, or even putting something like a foil safety blanket, or a yoga mat between the swag base and mattress can help a lot.
Hope that gives you a few things to consider!
How would a 1100 swag go on this ?
G'day Matt,
It would go great. There will be some minor overhang, but generally this is preferred - especially in rain. If the swag is slightly wider than the stretcher it means rain will run off to the ground, instead of getting caught & pooling between the stretcher fabric and swag floor.
Its designed to go with the RS-1 swag, which is 105 wide for reference.
Hi Will this stretcher fit in a pronto4 zempire air tent? The floor dimensions indicate yes, but the slope of the wall reduces the width available along the back wall .
G'day Jack,
Generally, with this style of tent you lose around 35cm of space at stretcher height. We'd recommend something no longer than say 205cm long, or look at getting a low rise stretcher that sits closer to the ground.
The standard Oztent Goanna or Gecko stretchers come in a 190L and would be ideal.
Does it have the drink holder and phone pockets like on the Geckos?
G'day Louise,
No, not on this one. It's designed primarily for use with the RS-1 Swag (and other swags), so doesn't have the same features as the standard stretchers.
Hope that helps.
Does the series 2 have straps to hold a swag down to it like the series 1?
G'day Garry,
Yep! Whilst not obvious from the images we have online, it does have the 4 webbing straps in each corner.
Does this fit into a RV3 …? Given the angle of the back wall of the RV3 and height of this stretcher, does it take up most of the available floor space?
G'day Leish,
You can fit the stretcher in running side to side, which will give you around 60-70cm of floor space between the front door and the side of the stretcher.
It definitely won't fit in running front to back sorry, I'm not aware of any stretchers that will due to the depth of the floor space.
Thankyou Lauren, this is exactly the answer I was looking for… Might be a bit snug in there with a little cupboard as well so will use the Oztrail single stretcher instead…
No worries. Sounds like you'll have a cozy set up there.
Happy camping!
Hi, Can you tell me please if this stretcher fits in a rv4 Thanx
G'day Andrew,
If you want to put it side to side, parallel to the doorway, then absolutely.
If you want to run it front to back (perpendicular), then unfortunately not, it's just too long overall & definitely not something that you could put a sleeping mat on.
The King Goanna Stretcher might be a good alternative, check it out here.
Will this fit in the Oztent RV5 ok?
G'day Ron,
Assuming you mean you want to orient the stretcher from front to back, then yes.
The RS-1 is a tad higher than standard 45cm stretchers, but it does just fit in without pressing on the tent walls.
Hope that helps.
Hi does this stretcher fit the ds2 swag? or is the swag too wide? is there any stretcher wide enough?
G'day Paul,
The DS2 is a double swag, so isnt compatible with this stretcher.
Due to double/queen stretchers having a central supporting bar, they are not generally a great option for use with double swags.
I have heard there is a brand out there that makes a barless double stretcher, so you may be able to track one down if the stretcher swag combo is what you're needing.
Hi, Is the bag of the RS1 stretcher and RS1 tent waterproof so I can transport them on my roof?
G'day Wayne,
No, the bags are made from ripstop polyester, so aren't waterproof. If you're carrying them on your roof in wet weather, we'd recommend tarping them, or putting them in an enclosed roof box/bag to keep them dry.
Hi, is the mattress supplied in conjunction with the give of the swag sufficient comfort or do you need to also add a self inflating mat on top?
G'day Wayne,
Im not sure what you mean about mattress supplied, sorry. The stretcher bed does not come with a mattress, its just a tight canvas across the frame.
If you are using it in conjunction with swag you should be more than comfortable - no need to add an extra mattress in.
Hi Snowys, sorry I meant the mat that comes with the RS1 swag! Essentially I am trying to work out if the mat in the RS1 swag plus the stretcher will be comfortable enough, as I know the mat in the RS1 swag alone without the stretcher will need replacing to a self inflating mat. Cheers Wayne
G'day again Wayne,
Ah, I understand what you mean now!
I think the stretcher and normal swag mattress should be comfy enough.
Alot of people are more than happy to keep the provided swag mattress & still get a good nights sleep.
It's not uncommon for people to sleep on the stretchers as the are without a mattress at all.
I definitely think it's worth having a few trips as it is and decide if you think upgrading your mattress is necessary after you given it a try.
Hello, Is the stretcher itself 107cm wide or does that include the end bars? What would be your widest king single stretcher?
G'day John,
This stretcher is the largest option we sell, with the measurements being the total external dimensions which includes the end bars.
You'll probably have closer to the 100cm mark on the actual stretcher.
What's the difference between the old and new version besides the colour?
G'day Denz,
The colour upgrade has been done with a heavier duty stretcher fabric, but other than that the frame, weight rating, etc is the same.
Hope that helps!
Can two people sleep on this? Or will it sag too much to be comfortable
G'day Lee,
This is a king single sized stretcher and is only large enough for a single person.
If you are wanting a 2 person stretcher take a look at our double stretcher range.
