Better than insurance, the Oztent RV Mesh Ground Sheet is a great way to protect and prolong the life of the floor of your Oztent tent from damage – plus it’s friendly to the environment and accepted in camping grounds.
Made from durable anti-slip PVC material reinforced with Polyester twine, this floor saver will provide a firm supportive floor on a variety of surfaces. It’ll also keep rubbish, stones and grass out and will deter sharp and abrasive objects that may be underneath from penetrating the tent floor. It also provides an additional barrier to moisture seepage into the floor in really soggy conditions.
Because it extends all the way underneath the base of the tent and out to the front of the awning, it will add to your living and storage area in the tent. Many Caravan Parks now require mesh to be used because it allows water and air to reach the grass below for continued growth, so it’s good to have one of these up your sleeve to stick under your RV Tent.
I find the ultra mesh a little slippery when it’s under my tent (black wolf) and also out the front. Just wondering if the oztent, is more grippy? Thanks
G'day Phil,
They are fairly similar in terms of their grip and feel. The OZtrail Ultra Mesh is made of polyethylene while the Oztent has a mixture of Polyester and PVC woven together. This may change it slightly but overall isn't a significant difference in their grip.
What oztent floor saver would fit the above dawg?
Hey Eally,
None of the mesh floor savers are specifically designed for the R2 Swag. If you went with the floor saver for the RV#, this is the closest to the measurements. You will have a little overlap on the sides, cover the full awning area and give you around 200cm extra to set up some of your other equipment.
Hi guys What size RV mesh floor saver would work with my Napier Sportz SUV tent with Screen room? During a rainy weekend the "screen room" floor became wet and the whole area was damp. Also looking for a fly that could go over the screen room to make it more "waterproof" too. Have any suggestions?
G'day Sandy,
These particular mesh floors are designed specifically for the Oztent RV tents. I'm not sure if these would be suitable, but you can also look at the Oztrail Ultramesh which come in a range of sizes.
I've not heard of Napier before, but generally you'd first work out how much space you want to be covered and measure that up. You can just get a ground mesh for underneath the tent floor, or you can get a larger one that would also cover annex spaces.
Once you know roughly what size area you want covered by the groundsheet, you'd just choose the closest size option listed.
Hope that helps.
Which should I buy for my RV1 tent?
G'day Chen,
The RV1 has been discontinued for a while now, so there are no longer any suitable accessories available. The option would be to get the RV3 size, but it will be significantly bigger. Alternatively, you could measure exactly how much space you'd like covered & look at a generic ground mesh alternative like the Oztrail Ultramesh - just choose the size closest to the space you want covered.
Hi, the info on the Oztent website listing the differences between the old floor saver and the new series 2 floor saver is pretty vague. What are the actual differences (besides colour and new mesh)? Thanks.
G'day Ben.
As far as I'm aware, there arent any. Similar to the S1 v S2 specifications in other Oztent gear, its mostly just a colour and material upgrade that provides a difference. There may be other minor manufacturing details change, etc and extra row of stitching in high tensions areas, etc - but information on those kind of minor details aren't not provided.
You can almost be certain though, that a second version of a product is generally an improved version.
Does this help keep the base of the tent dry from condensation? Thanks!
G'day Lucy,
This ultimately meshes, so it is a permeable groundsheet. Whilst it can help with minimizing condensation, it's not going to keep your tent floor 100% dry.
It's great practice having an old towel in your camp kit, so when you're packing up your tent you can give a quick rub over any part of the floor that may have moisture.
Just wondering if this size floor mesh would be compatible with the rv 4 setup. I intend to purchase both the side & front panels for my rv 4 & have the awing up at the front, so would like to know if it would cover the entire floor area.
G'day Melissa,
The SV-5 ground mesh is only 60cm longer than the RV4 ground mesh, so wont do what you are assuming it will do.
You will also end up have to peg through the mesh on the larger size, as it far exceeds the width of the RV 4, so you'll end up with holes in it that may get bigger.
Your best option if you have the RV 4 is to purchase the RV 4 size, and for the times when you want to have the front window flap set up like an awning, get an extra smaller generic ground mesh to cover this space eg Ultramesh Tarp.
Which size of this that you would go with is completely up to you and how much space you want covered, so I recommend setting up camp like you usually would and measuring out your space befroe you decide.
Looking at SV-5 Max and curious as to compatibility
G'day Elise,
There sure is, you can find the SV-5 Max Mesh Floor Saver at the bottom of the list in the drop-down menu.
The Oztent website also includes the RV5 Plus in the same variant as the RV5/RX5 though I can't find mention of RV5 Plus here
G'day Dan,
Yes, the RV5/RX5 version supports the RV5Plus as they have the same size tent footprint.
The oztent website refers to a newer "Series II" version of the floor saver. Is that what this is? https://www.oztent.com.au/Products/tent-range/tent-accessories/oztent-floor-saver
G'day Dan,
I've just checked with our Oztent contact, and I can confirm we have the newer Series II version of the floor savers.
i am going to a caravan park on the 10 August for 10 days and require a mesh floor (or shade cloth) before being allowed to set up my tent. I also have the side walls for my awning, so, hopefully one of the Oztent RV Mesh Floor Savers will do the trick. I do not really want to use shade cloth. Cheers
G'day Richard,
Just having a quick look at the specs and dimensions, the RX5/RV5 Floor Saver should do the trick for underneath your tent, extending to the end of the awning. This will only be as wide as the tent though, so won't fully extend out to the side of your awning walls.
Alternatively, you could check out the Oztrail Ultramesh Tarp, and grab 2 different sizes to make a T shape. It's advisable to work out exactly what dimensions you're going to be needing for your space first, and use that as a guide.
Is there a mesh floor saver to fit the Oztent Eyre 2?
There is, Chris, the RV-4 mesh floor saver suits the Eyre 2 tent. That being said, you can use any groundsheet, the Oztent ones are just made to be a more specific fit.
HexPegs are 10ml diameter - will they fit in the eyelets? If not, I’ve seen your video on adding eyelets, would this be feasible on this mesh? Thanks!
G'day Jane,
I have just checked, and the Hex Pegs will fit through the eyelets on an Oztent Mesh Floor Saver. The flat-top Hex Peg would be the best option and makes pegging out quick and easy.
I have a RX5 tent and require a ground mat to protect the tent. Thanks for your time.
G'day Peter,
Yes, the RV5/RX5 Mesh floor saver is suitable for the RX5 tent.
Is there a model to fit the Oxley 7?
G'day M,
The RV Mesh Floor Savers are designed for the Oztent RV range, but they don't make a specific mesh floor for the Oxley models. We'd probably suggest going for something like the Oztrail Ultramesh Tarp in the 2.44 x 6.1m size.
We have an RV3 but noticed the oztrail ultramesh is half the price... Which feels nicer underfoot/less scratchy for kids to play on? Are there any differences in terms of ease of packing up/care requirements?
G'day Meredith,
Yes, you could go for an Ultramesh Tarp instead of the Oztent RV Mesh Floor Saver. The major difference will be the sizing, the Oztent ones are obviously designed to the exact size of the tents (including the awning), whereas the Ultramesh Tarps won't quite fit the same, you might end up with a little bit of overlap / underlap. In terms of feel, they both feel quite similar to me to touch, so either option should suit.
Why dont you have the unpacked size of the RV1 floor saver on your site, you only have a packed size ??
G'day Paul,
Apologies for the confusion mate! The 'external dimensions' for each size can be found in the product description once you select your size from the drop-down menu. The unpacked size for the RV1 is 370cm long x 215cm wide. Cheers :)
Hi Snowy's, I see that you show that the RV4 size is also compatible with the RX4 tent which is what I have. But before I buy, I would like confirmation of this because Oztent doesn't make any comment about this on their own website — they only list the RV series as being compatible. Thanks in advance for clearing this up!
G'day Adam,
I think we may have already connected via messenger chat but I can confirm that the Oztent RV Mesh Floor Savers work with the RX4 tent.
How many peg down eyelets does the floor saver have? looks like only 2 or 4, one in each corner, if so is the hem wide enough to fit extra eyelets for pegging down the front and sides
G'day Den,
I've just had a chat with Oztent about their RV Mesh Floor Savers. They told me that they have 8 eyelets on each of the floor savers. One in each corner and then another in the middle of each side. If you wanted to add extra eyelets, then there is enough room to do that.
Does this mesh floor saver fit correctly if you peak the awning in the middle like you would when fitting side panels? From pics it seem the awning poles will be outside of the reinforced corners.
G'day Den,
The awning poles on the RV tent would sit off of the reinforced corners, you're right. Although the weight in the middle probably wouldn't be enough to cause too much damage to your Floor Saver I wouldn't have thought.
What would be the best floor saver for a Oztent Eyre E-2?
G'day Alan,
Having just had a bit of a look at the Oztent Eyre E-2, I reckon the 8 x 16 ft Oztrail Ultramesh Tarp will be a winner. It should cover the entirety of the tent plus the awning area as well.
We have both the above tents which combined I believe are identical in size to the Oztrail RV5 tent so in theory this should be a perfect fit?
G'day Mark,
Looking at the measurements of the Rhino Tagalong, I reckon you're on the money with this one. You should have too many issues using an Oztent RV Mesh Floor Saver on your Rhino tent.
What are the differences between these two floorsavers?. I have a JV Signature tent
G'day Derek,
The RV Mesh Floor Savers are specifically designed to fit the Oztent RV Range whereas the Oztrail Ultramesh Tarps aren't designed for any specific tent but as a common option for a range of products. This doesn't mean though that you can't use the RV Mesh Floor Saver for other needs.
I believe that Oztent is looking to make a Mesh Floor Saver for the new JV Signature Tent, but are yet to release it.
What size would i need for my JV series?
G'day Andrew,
The Oztent JV is no longer available for sale here in Australia, so I can't check with physical stock in store. However, OzTent are still selling the JV in America, and from reading the specifications from their website, the footprint is approximately 4.4 x 2.4 m. You may want to double check this with your tent, however, to be sure.
If confirmed as this size, the Mesh Floor Saver for the RV4 would be a perfect fit.
does the ground sheet attach to the side and front walls
G’day Mick,
The RV Mesh Floor Saver doesn’t attach to the tent you just peg it out underneath - though it does have the same peg out points as the RV tent.
Does this mat keep sand out Does the sand drop through
Howdy Tony. Yes this particular floor saver is designed to do just that. It allows for sand and dirt to fall back through to the ground as well as protecting your tent floor from damage from below. Many grassed camping sites actually won't allow the use of non-mesh floor savers as they do not allow the ground to be able to breathe, killing their lawns, so it is perfect for pretty much any camping location.Â
HI.. what are the dimensions of the RV4 Mesh floor saver?
G'day Paul,Â
I've just checked with the info provided by the supplier, and I've found that the RV4 Floor Saver is 440cm long and 240cm high.Â
