Hi, is this unit the model that has the new foldable x base support
G'day Ralf,
I'm not sure what you mean sorry - Darche have 3 sizes of essentially the exact same firepit. They all have a X leg base, and all fold flat.
The 630 firepit is the newest one, the only difference being that it is extra large in size compared to the 310 and 430 models.
Does the fire pit rattle inside the bag when it's in transit?
G'day Regan,
Its impossible to say. Just like any camping gear, or cargo in your car, depends how you've packed it & the road you're driving on.
can i use charcoal in the darche firepit or do you recommend something else?
G'day David,
Yep, absolutely. A lot of councils in urban regions require charcoal only in your fire pits, so in my personal experience, it works quite well in fire pits. I'd say you wouldn't have any issues with that.
Hi, Has anyone used an Oz Brai camp on here will it stand up on the fire pit? Cheers
G'day Jez,
Unfortunately as we don't sell the Oz Brai, we've got no way to verify whether this would work.
We'll post this on the page for you in case anyone else has tried this out and wants to reply.
Can I use heat beads in this firepit
Is the base plate stainless steel and rust resistant too please? We ocean front camp so want to check on the longevity. Thanks!
G'day,
The base plate is powder-coated steel, so would benefit from a good rinse off after a beach side camping trip.
Hmmm, I wonder if rust could be an issue, might the base plate benefit with a paintcoat of suitable hardwearing; heat resistent coat of paint (black!)? No one likes rust forming! Just a thought!
Hi In national parks when the rules stipulate no open fires, would this qualify as a contained fire? Thanks
G'day Marie,
This will be a question for QLD National Parks, but in general, an open fire refers to any wood-based fuel source.
Does the fire pit come with a hot plate attachment?
G'day Jeff,
No, the Darche Firepits do not come with a hotplate attachment, but you can definitely rest a hotplate on the grill platform without too much trouble.
When I was researching the same thing I found this mob in the NT do a SS plate that sits in place of the grill. https://www.topendcampgear.com.au/product/darche-450-stainless-steel-bbq-plate/
Assume using a small fire for cooking, (not a raging bushfire) how hot does the metal base get? Can I stand it on an Aluminium folding camp table like the Slatpac Std Camp Table.
G'day Peter,
Generally we'd recommend sitting the firepit directly on the ground, but if you wanted to raise it up a little then you could pop it on top of an aluminium slat pac table, you might just end up with a little bit of residual heat transfer to the table.
I have used mine on my lawn a couple of times and it has burned the grass both times. I did not have a raging fire for too long.
Can you buy X-legs to raise the base off the ground like the Drifta brand to stop grass damage?
G'day Jerry,
No, there are no extra leg attachments available for the Darche Firepits at this point in time.
Is this firepit made in Australia?
G'day Luke,
Darche manufactures their products in China.
How does it go holding multiple servo sized fire wood logs?
G'day Liam,
It probably depends on the wood from your local servo, but I'd say it can handle around 5-6 logs. If you have a look at the reviews a number of owners have uploaded photos of their firepits in action, and most appear to have quite a bit of wood in theirs.
why is the packed size so much larger than 450 x 450. is only the size of the bag
G'day Bob,
The way that the legs fold means that they pack down about 10cm larger than the unit when it is assembled.
What is the carry case made of?
G'day Jim,
The carry bag is made from heavy-duty nylon.
Does the Darche have the rotisserie brackets available as other similar firepits?? I have seen other similar firepits with the rotisserie brackets available.
G'day Steve,
Sorry, the Darche Stainless Steel BBQ 450 Firepit doesn't have any rotisserie or bracket attachment kits.
Does Trivet need to be used if you only want to use it has a camp fire Thanks Neil
G'day Neil,
If you're wanting to use the Firepit just for a fire then you won't need to pop the grill/grate on top. The Stainless Steel Grill can be used if you're wanting to cook.
Will it come off over time... seems that spacing is too close for their logo. Just wondering especially where A is
G'day Aleks,
The Darche Stainless Steel BBQ 450 Firepit is designed for use as a small comfort fire or cooking fire. If you stick within the intended use you shouldn't have any issues with distortion, bending or damage.
Is 450mm the overall size, or size of the actual pit area? Thanks
G'day Jack,
We don't have any stock to physically measure this for you at the moment, however based on the size of the 310 model I've got here I can confirm that the 45 x 45cm size is the size of the top of the pit.
Do you know if this will hold a large camp oven full of yummy lamb shanks
G'day Trevor,
What a great question! I've had a play around with our floor stock and tried both the 9 qt and 12 qt Camp Ovens which weigh 8.9kg and 15kg respectively. It seemed to take the weight well and was very stable. I'd be fairly confident that if you added it full of lamb shanks you'd not only end up with a delicious meal but it could take the weight while it cooked!
Hi how does this fire pit go with distortion from the fire if it is a raging fire.
G'day Brent,
The Darche 450 fire pit is essentially designed for use as a contained comfort fire or for cooking food. Whilst you could technically build a raging fire in it, its best to stick with the intended use.
