You’ve got a bit of a dilemma. You need an affordable and simple tent to get you and three others through a weekend away. The OZtrail Tasman 4V has everything you’ll actually need from an entry-level tent, with no unnecessary trimmings. This tent is ideal for balmier climates, as the inner tent is made from breathable polyester which will give you plenty of airflow on warmer nights.
No-See-Um mesh covers the windows, so you’ll be out of the line of fire of insects while allowing plenty of fresh air to circulate. If you’re a bit clumsy when you’re tired, you’re less likely to trip over when attending to nature’s call - as the doors on the Tasman are a user-friendly D shape. The cross-pole configuration makes this tent a bit easier to set up and has the added bonus of helping watershed off the fly.
The fly has been treated with a silver coating which will reflect the heat while also adding an extra element of protection in adverse weather. You can easily illuminate your tent at night by attaching an optional light to the lantern hook in the centre of the tent, and you can keep your valuables separated from the rest of your gear thanks to the handy organiser pockets. For camping newbies, groups on a budget and the like- the OZtrail Tasman 4V is a great option.
I have a two year old Tasman 4V which I only used on a seven night trip Since then it’s been bagged (although I have taken it out to check for mould several times) It’s fine but what I want to know is it’s water head rating and can a product say like Nikwax rejuvenate it Thanks
G'day Barry,
Oztrail haven't supplied a waterhead rating for the fabric they use on these tents, so unfortunately we're not able to tell you what it is rated to. Nikwax may help to rejuvenate the waterproofing on the tent fly, however Oztrail doesn't explicitly state that the fabric is waterproof, so it's hard to say how well it would work. If you're worried about leaks, then we'd recommend watching this handy instructional video.
What size tarp and what do you recommend as a ground cover please?
G'day Sonia,
We'd recommend the Oztrail Ultramesh Tarp in the 2.4 x 2.4m size if you're just looking to protect the tent floor. If you'd also like a ground cover in the front vestibule area, then the 2.4 x 3.65m size will do the trick.
Can an Oztrail single easy fold stretcher fit comfortably inside this tent?
G'day Leish,
Unfortunately we don't have any stock to physically give this a whirl for you, however in general dome tents and stretchers don't work overly well together due to the slope of the side walls. If you're just wanting to fit one stretcher in the centre it should be ok, but if you're looking to fit more than one you'd need to look at the low rise version.
Are the awning poles included with the tent?
G'day Trish,
The awning poles in the picture are sold separately. You can find them here: Awning Pole Set.
The second time I have ever used my tent and one of the main poles snapped during the night.
G'day Tiana,
There isnt a specific Tasman 4V pole kit available, however the Oztrail Duraplus Pole Kit is the best option for a quick repair job. You can head to our Tent Pole Repair walk thorough video for more info.
Hope that helps!
Just wondering if the vestibule area zips up to become an enclosed space? Thanks.
G'day Viv,
Yes, it does.
Yes it does. I zipped it up at night to help keep cold and in case there were furry creatures
Thanks Amanda, glad to hear it keeps the furry creatures out of your tent!
