If you’ve got a couple of kids, or perhaps a group of mates who are into the outdoor touring lifestyle then the BlackWolf Turbo 300 will weather the road with you on all your journeys. The Turbo range from Black Wolf is known for its easy setup, and hard-wearing canvas construction - so it’s the perfect range for a fuss and stress-free camping experience.
This newly updated range has tape sealed seams where the floor and tent wall meet, and the fly has wider corners to guard against water leakage. The Siliconised Polyester floor is easy to roll which makes this tent even simpler to set up and more importantly - pack up. And with extra reinforcing along the roof poles, your turbo will have added sturdiness in windy conditions.
The three-pole awning can be turned into an extended living area with optional panels, or it can be sectioned off with an optional screen room for a fully enclosed space. The PVC storm flaps at the bottom of the optional front and side panels will help keep your awning dry in wet weather, and the zips and Velcro on the panels attach to the fly to allow for tape sealing for added water protection.
This single room tent is perfect for when you’re on the move as it’s easy to use and is built for tough Aussie conditions.
How do the heat levels inside this tent compare to say a synthetic hiking tent with a lot more mesh on the inner? Or even how does it compare to the Turbo Lite version? I haven't used a canvas tent before, and as someone that lives in Darwin, am curious whether the window's will provide enough of a through breeze to make sleeping bareable on hot nights.
G'day Sam,
The Canvas Turbo 300 tents would keep cooler in summer compared to a synthetic/polyester tent, the canvas material is more breathable compared to polyester, and the internal heat is usually lower as polyester tends to trap heat easier. The Turbo has roof vents, side vents and a mesh front door, this should allow enough airflow to keep it cool in the hot summer.
I would suggest a Turbo Canvas tent for hot weather over the Turbo Lite or a Synthetic Hiking Tent as the material will increase the internal heat and a smaller tent will feel warmer compared to the Canvas Turbo 300.
Hi, will you be stocking/ reviewing the BLK range of Turbo tents soon please?
G'day Kate,
We are aware of the new BLK range, but it's not something we're looking to stock at this stage.
It may be something to revisit later in the year, but all new product announcements are done through the newsletter.
If you're not already subscribed, head to the very bottom of our Snowys page to enter your email.
I'm looking at the Turbo 300 (canvas) and am while I watched the (excellent) video on how to set it up, I'm wondering how easy it would be in reality for me to set up solo? I'm 169cm tall (female) but fairly fit - am thinking I'd break the tent out into different sections for transport etc, but am curious as to how heavy it is to 'pop up' the inner part of the tent and how much overhead heavy work there is with the poles? The 240 just looks a little too squeezy for what I'm after, and I'd prefer canvas over the nylon. I have a dual cab Hilux so am assuming the 300 would pack well enough to comfortably fit in the tray along with other gear. Thank you :)
G'day Trina,
One of the Snowys crew is around 155cm and she has a twin Black Wolf turbo tent which has the same frame and hub in the central room.
She has no issue getting the tent up by herself, but does go on tip toes for the main hub.
The maximum head height on the Turbo 300 is 200cm. As long as your outstretched arm reaches 2m or more, you'll be fine.
I'm 171cm and can do it no dramas.
Hope that helps!
Is the canvas bag waterproof as it will not fit in my roof box. Thanks
G'day Joy,
No, the Turbo tent storage bag is not waterproof. It will generally be fine on your roof racks, but if you are expecting rain, the cheapest and easiest option is to have a tarp on hand that you can wrap around it.
If you did want a waterproof option, Coleman does a heavy-duty waterproof tent bag that will work with the Turbo 300, you can find it here.
Is the tent designed so that in high winds some or all of the awning can be stowed away, or does it have to be pitched as per the images shown?
G'day Martin,
Tents aren't designed to withstand high winds, so we wouldn't recommend camping if there are high winds forecast. The front awning can't be stowed away, and must be pitched in full as shown in the images. If you do set up in poor weather we'd recommend using all the peg and guy ropes points, and doing everything you can to reduce the chance of damage (e.g. position your car in front of the tent to block wind, angle the tent so that wind will flow over the tent).
Hi. How would this tent go if you were just going for a quick night and didnt want to use the fly net or outer layer? we are looking at the canvas version. cheers
G'day Dianne,
It's not something we'd be willing to recommend, as the fly provides structural stability, and contains all of the guy rope attachment points. If you used the tent without the fly there is nothing to stop the frame from twisting or becoming damaged by wind or even a gentle breeze.
could it be used for winter camping
G'day Joshua,
Yes, the Turbo 300 Tent can be used for winter camping, although it's not designed to withstand snowfall, so if you are pitching it near where you are over winter, we'd recommend proceeding with caution if snow has been forecast, and be prepared to regularly remove snow from the tent fly if you get caught out.
Your floor plan shows 3 windows for this tent. I’m pretty sure it only has 2 windows as per the photos. Please ensure your floor plan diagrams are accurate
G'day Covidfreeman,
Thanks for the heads up, I'll ask the team to get that corrected, you're correct, there are just two windows at the side, and no window at the rear.
Do the external dimensions listed on your site include the awning or are the dimensions just the main tent section. This for Black Wolf Turbo 300
G'day Jonathan,
If you have a look at the very last image on our site there is a floor plan. It shows the size with and without the awning. Essentially the floor is 3m x 3m, and the awning gives you an extra 1.8m of space.
Hi, do I need to hose this tent down or treat the canvas any way to ensure waterproofing?
G'day Andy,
There is no need to weather/season the Turbo 300 tent, they have tape sealed seams so they'll be waterproof straight out of the bag.
Hi team - any plans to offer the 300 Plus? Everything is leading me towards the 300, but I’m keen for the extra space that the plus offers. I’m seeing the plus available at other stores however I’ve got a lot of love for Snowy’s :)
G'day Saul,
We've got the Turbo Plus 300 Tent, you can find it here. They're a really popular option with great reviews :)
Hi, I just read that the Black Wolf lifetime warranty last for the life of the tent, not the life of the owner. Could you please help me clarify my understanding of this? What's considered a reasonable lifetime of the tent / how many years effectively is the warranty?
G'day Rob,
Lifetime warranties can sometimes be a little hard to quantify but the way it works with Black Wolf is pretty straightforward. As long as the tent is still in useable condition and there's a manufacturing fault, it's covered under warranty. If the tent falls of your roof and is run over by a car, at that point the warranty would end and any future issues wouldn't be covered, mostly because you wouldn't want to use it again anyway! If in 40 years time, your Black Wolf Turbo 300 Tent is still in useable condition and then you notice some stitching coming undone, then you're more than welcome to return it under warranty for repair.
Hi, I noticed the tent is suspended on its aluminum frame with elastics which are stitched to the tent. What is your experience with the durability of these elastics? How long do they last before they become loose and can they be replaced easily?
G'day Rob,
We've never had any issues with the elastics on a Black Wolf Turbo 300 Tent in the past. It's quite a thick elastic and we've not had one come back under warranty with elastic issues before. We've also had one set up on our shop floor for a good 12 months now and it's still in perfect condition, there's no sign of stretching.
Hi is this the 2017 model? It's pictured as the 2017 just want to confirm
G'day Dylan,
It is! All our Black Wolf Turbo tents are current models.
Hi there, I already asked some questkon about weight before. I'm about to place the following order: 1x Black Wolf Turbo 300 Tent 1x Black Wolf Turbo Awning Screen Room 300 1x Black Wolf Turbo Lite Front Panels 1x Black Wolf Turbo Lite Side Panel 1x Black Wolf Turbo Deluxe Lite Side Panel and maybe also 1x Black Wolf Turbo Groundsheets As you can see I'm combining canvas with the Lite material for the "verandah". It's purely for reducing weight for transport. If it's possible I would like to know the exact weight of all the individual items. Because the tent 300 has weight of 26 kg regarding to your website I would like you to ask if it's possible to take some parts of the tent out and put into luggage to reduce the weight of the tent. I would like to take the whole set up to US for my trip in August but have ony 2x 23 kg allowance. The excess weight is quite expensive so I need to reduce the weight of each big item to max 23 kg. Thank you for your help.
G'day Tomas,
The solution here would be to pack your tent inner in one bag and the fly, awning poles and pegs in another bag. This would be the easiest way to separate and drop the weight down from 26kg to under 23kg.
In addition to the weight of the Black Wolf side and front panels already provided. The Black Wolf Turbo Awning Screen Room is 3.78kg. The Black Wolf Turbo 300 groundsheet is 3.76kg.
.
Howdy Michael. The new 2017 model Turbo Tents now feature an improved 600D Siliconised Polyester PU Black floor in comparison to the older model that was silver. The new model is also easier and neater to roll up with its new Polyester floor and has been updated to feature tape seam seals between the floor and the walls.
Hi i was wondering what is different from the 2016 tent? Regards
G'day Dan,
There are a couple of differences between the 2016 and 2017 Turbo tents from Black Wolf.Â
The main ones are that the 2017 models are tape seam sealed where the floor meets the tent wall seam, the fly has wider corners to prevent water coming through, the floor is made from a lighter material for easy pack up, and there is extra reinforcing along the ridge poles.Â
We've got a blog post that goes into detail about the updates, which sounds like it would be quite helpful for you. You can have a read of it here.Â
