Strong and durable, the OZtrail Ultramesh Tarpaulin is an extremely versatile addition to your camp kit.
Ideal as a floor saver under your tent, or even in the backyard under kids pools and water slides, the Ultramesh tarp also serves as a windbreak, shade sail and is a great way to keep your campsite clean and dry when used as outdoor flooring.
Reinforced with polypropylene webbing along the perimeter, and featuring non-corrosive brass eyelets, the OZtrail Ultramesh Tarp is UV stabilised and comes complete with a mesh carry bag.
Hello, how many eyelets on each side for the 2.4m tarp please
G'day Sam,
The 2.4 x 2.4 (8ft x 8ft) has 12 eyelets all up. The 4 in the corners with another 2 down each side.
Is there any UV rating or grading of the mesh in regards to how much it blocks out if used as a shade? Is there a product that would suit better for a shade tarp? (Other than a solid tarp). Thanks.
G'day Susan,
OZtrail doesn't specify a UV rating or grading of the mesh in these tarps although it is UV stabilised so it won't wear out in the sun. It will block out most of the sun and would be the best option we currently have that would work best as a shade tarp.
Just wondering how this goes in the sun, if it gets super hot to stand on barefoot? If so do you have anything else you’d recommend that would be better? Thanks
G'day Sarah,
This doesn't get very hot in the sun, it would warm up a little but not super hot to stand on when barefoot.
I am looking at using this for my RV-5 tagalong set up. Given there is no perfect match, I am going to oversize the ground sheet, which means the pegs for the tents would go through this ground sheet. Would that be ok? Should I put some eyelets where it will peg through or better off just pegging through without eyelets?
G'day Dylan,
Yeah, absolutely, pegging through the groundsheet is pretty common. You also have the option to fold it up to size if you want to avoid having to peg through.
We'd just recommend setting up the same way every time if possible, and using the same holes. You can definitely put eyelets in if you want, it comes down to personal preference and how often you'll be going away/how often the holes are being used.
Hi! I have a 2.4m oztrail gazebo, and was hoping to use the ultramesh as a ground cover underneath the gazebo. I've just noticed the dimensions for the ultramesh are 2.44x2.44m, so does that meant the eyelets wouldn't match up with the peg holes in the bottom of the gazebo? If so, do you have any other products that would work for a 2.4m gazebo? Thanks
G'day Lucy,
We've not specifically tried the combination out ourselves, so can't confirm if the eyelets will line up exactly with the peg holes, but it is the closest, most compatible option available.
Hope that helps.
Hello, I just bought the Coleman Northstar 10P Darkroom Tent, but the ground mesh to go with it sold out everywhere. Would the Oztrail Ultra Mesh be a suitable alternative and if so, what size would you recommend? Thanks!
G'day Colin,
The Coleman 10P Northstar mesh groundsheet is 6 x 2.3m, so we'd recommend choosing the closest size to that in an alternative brand. You can potentially go wider, say up to 4m, if you want the Northstar's front awning space covered as well.
Hope that helps.
How does this compare to the Coleman ground mesh footprint? The price difference for similar size is almost half If it makes a difference I want it under a Coleman 10p North star instant up
G'day Amy,
The material is pretty similar, with the overall job of protecting the tent and allowing water to flow away is the same. The Coleman footprints have been designed to fit under the tent exactly, so will be a perfect fit, while the ultramesh are more of a generic option, and will fit a range of sizes and shapes of tents. It's totally up to you, but we're pretty impressed with both of these mats, so I'd choose based on your budget.
Hi Snowys, what would be the best fit to cover the tent floor and the vestibule area Oztrail Fast Frame Blockout 4 Person tent? And just the tent floor only?
G'day Craig,
Theres no best option here mate, it just comes down to your personal preference and how much area you would like to have covered.
If the tarp is larger than the tent footprint it's likely you will need to peg through the mesh, in which case you can grab a set of eyelets and reinforce these holes. Make sure your orient the tarp the same way each time you set up so you can keep using the same holes.
Would you recommend this as a groundsheet for the 23ZERO Bandit 900 swag? If not, what would you recommend? Cheers Mike.
G'day Mike,
Yes, the Ultramesh Tarps are a great option to use as a groundsheet under Swags. In terms of size, you'll have a fair amount of extra tarp, so you could fold it over, or you could peg it out flat, and have the extra space as a spot to take your shoes etc off.
What size do you guys recommend for under the oztent rv3?
G'day Elka,
We recommend the Oztent Mesh Floor Saver as it's specifically designed for the RV tent range and means you won't have to peg hole through something that isn't a perfect fit.
If you're not keen on that, choose a mat as close to the RV3 Mesh Floor saver dimensions (4 x 2.4m) as possible.
Hey Snowys, wondering if we got a larger one of these ground covers than the footprint of the tent, would this cause water to go underneath the tent if it rained?
G'day Tiffany,
Being mesh, it's permeable, and the rain will soak through. There will be no difference to water retention across sizes.
Hope that helps!
Hi, Some of the camping areas require a shade cloth groundsheet instead of a conventional tarp or plastic. Will this meet that requirement.
G'day Kerrie,
Yes, it will. The Ultramesh tarp is made from a heavy-duty shade cloth style material, so will allow water, light and air to reach the grass.
What size you recommend for black wolf mantis ul2 hiking tent ?
Hi Snowy's, beginner camper here - which size do you recommend for using with the Outdoor Connection Brampton tent? Thanks so much
G'day Bree,
Welcome to the world of camping!
We'd recommend the 3.05 x 6.1m Ultramesh Tarp underneath the Brampton Tent.
Hi Snowys, I want your opinion if it is better for the width of the mat to go shorter or longer than the width of the tent. If it does go longer, do you hammer a peg through the mat or fold the mat so it is inside the tent's dimensions? As an example I am looking at the Oztent RX-5 which is 2.6M wide and not sure the best mat width out of 2.4M or 3.05M. Tx JP tx JP
G'day John,
It tends to come down to personal preference. Personally, I like to have a larger mat so there is space to walk around the tent edges in socks if I need to adjust guy ropes/windows etc. The only downfall with this will be making sure to set up in the same direction each time, so any peg holes are in a consistent spot. Some people like to go slightly smaller so they don't create any holes in the mesh. Another option would be the Oztent Mesh Floor Saver which is cut to the exact size.
Size for a coleman traveller 3P
G'day Glenys,
The 2.44m x 3.65m size is a good option to fit under the Coleman Traveller 3P Tent.
Looking to cover the awning space as well rather than just the inner.
G'day Maddy,
The front awning on the Northstar 10P comes out about 1.4m from the tent itself, so you're looking at about 3.8m in width, by 6.1m in length. The largest Ultramesh is 3.65 x 6.1m so you could go for that model, or you could get two of the 2.4 x 6.1m tarps and overlap them a little to cover the entire front awning area.
Groundsheet to best fit the Malamoo X-TRA from back to front awning
G'day Glenn,
This particular model hasn't been around for a while now so we're going based on some archived dimensions here. As far as we know, externally they are about 3m long x 2m wide. We'd recommend the 2.44 x 3.65m size, as this will give you plenty of space and some extra room at the front for your awning.
What tarp would you suggest to cover a BRAMPTON 3R tent? New to camping.
G'day Bernice,
The Outdoor Connection Brampton 3 Room tent measures 620 x 290 in diameter. This tarp is perfect for most tents and given these dimensions the 10 x 20ft/3.05 x 6.10 would fit nicely under the tent with a slight bit protruding to wipe your feet on! If you want one for under an awning, then buying a second smaller one (to suit your needs) would work well.
I'm looking for a more cost effective option than the Blackwolf groundsheet..
G'dat Steve,
If you're just looking for something to go under the tent floor then the 2.44 x 2.44m size will be a good fit. If you'd also like it to extend under the front awning area then we'd recommend the 2.44 x 3.65m size.
Perhaps Buy two?
G'day Andrew,
There isn't an Ultramesh tarp size that will fit under both the tent and front awning, but two of the 2.44 x 4.88m tarps will be a near-perfect fit.
Hi, just looking at tarp options for our tent, which is the 10 P fast frame lumos. Which of these is the right size to get? Are they making them specifically for underneath their tents like Coleman are?
G'day Cathy,
The Ultramesh Tarp in the 2.44 x 6.1m size is a good fit. The 3.65m x 6.1m is also a popular option if you're wanting to have flooring under the awning when it is open too. At this point in time Oztrail aren't making a tent specific option like Coleman has recently started making.
Oxley 7 Lite Touring Tent is 2.5 wide. Which will fit best, a 2.44m or 3.05 wide mesh tarp.
G'day Ronald,
Either option will suit, however if you do go for the 3.05m wide version you'll just need to make sure you line up the tarp each time you set up camp so that the pegs go back through the same holes, as you'll end up with some holes where the pegs slot through the Ultramesh top.
Would this be an ok alternative to the parent floor saver? It’s current out of stock everywhere so I’m not able to make a comparison
G'day Marci,
Yes the Oztrail Ultramesh Tarp could be used instead of the Oztent Mesh Floor Saver. You'll probably find that there isn't an exact fit depending on the size of your Oztent, but the material is similar and serves the same purpose.
Hi, I plan to get the OZtrail Fast Frame Lumos Integrated Lighting 6 Person Tent. Which of these tarp size will be suitable for this tent?
G'day Ernest,
There isn't an exact fit for the Lumos 6, but you could go for the 10 x 10' (3.05 x 3.05m), or the 8 x 12' (2.4 x 3.65m). Both will suit, with the second one being a little too narrow, but long enough to cover under your front awning area.
I’ve seen that you recommended Oztrail 6.1 x 2.44 ultramesh to use underneath Coleman 10P Northstart darkroom tent. However, I’ve seen that Coleman Mesh footprints are also available. Which one should I choose and why. Thanks
G'day Hamza,
The Coleman Footprints are brand new on the market and have only been out for about a month. We previously recommended the Ultramesh Tarps, but now that Coleman makes an exact fit option, then we'd recommend sticking with the Coleman Footprint.
Would this be good in a tent to block cold coming through to mattresses?
G'day Karina,
The Ultramesh tarp is fantastic as an undertent tarp to stop moisture and dirt from reaching your tent floor. As an in-tent tarp, I'm not so sure it would work as it has no thermal properties. If you're finding it cold at night it might due to a few reasons to do with your sleep system. Your sleep system is your mattress, sleeping bag, liner and pillow which all work together to keep you warm. I've found a blog from our friends at Sea to Summit which might help explain it further HERE. If you would like more information give us a ring on 1300 914 007 or send through an email about your current setup and we can help to tailor it for your camping conditions.
Will the ultramesh tarp kill the grass
G'day Alan,
The Oztrail Ultramesh Tarp will generally allow the grass to breathe a little better than your tent floor or a solid tarp, however, if left in place for an extended period they will likely kill the grass.
I want it as a shade cloth over a very specific area
G'day Gerald,
The Ultramesh Tarps are available in 10 sizes, however, unfortunately, none of them are 4.3m long.
I’m looking at getting 2 tarps, one for under my pop up tent, one for the Roman screen shelter. Would like to have extra tarp underneath to act as mat. How do you secure the tent base and shelter base if they are sitting on the tarp have pegs?
G'day Amber,
You can peg through the Ultramesh Tarps, however, over time you will end with some larger holes in the material. We'd suggest setting it up in the same orientation each time to keep the holes consistent. If you have the Roman Swift Shelter then the 3.05 x 3.05m tarp should suit best, and you shouldn't need to peg through the tarp.
Hi was just wondering what size oztrail tarp would be good for my darche dirty Dee 1400
G'day Rory,
The external dimensions of the Dirty Dee 1400 swag are 215L x 140W cm so your best bet would be the smallest size mesh tarp which is 2.44 x 2.44m. You will have a bit of overhang though, so you may want to alter it or fold it. For more detail on how to do that, check out our blog here. Hope that helps, Rory!
Hi, would I be better off getting a 2.44x3.05 and having it be a bit shorter than the 2.5m width, or the 3.05x3.05 and fold the extra 55cm width under? Will it be okay in either case if it scrunches up around the front vestibule as that is less wide?
G'day Hiba,
If it were me I'd probably go for the 2.44 x 3.05m size if it was me, as this way you don't have to worry about folding etc. The 3.05 x 3.05m is a suitable option too, it's probably a personal preference really. I would suggest around the front vestibule area just tucking or folding the corners if they're protruding beyond where you're wanting to peg would vestibule. If it extends out from the sides of the tapered vestibule this is fine though.
What size ground mat will i need for use with a swag and a 3x3 gazebo? Should i go a 3.05 x 3.05 size, smaller or larger?
G'day Jon,
I'd say the 3.05 x 3.05m Ultramesh will suit your set up perfectly.
What colours are available or just green?.
G'day Rodger,
The Ultramesh Tarp just comes in the one colour, which is Green.
I am hoping this will allow rain through it as i don't want the rain to run off one end as it will cause pooling on the ground.
G'day David,
The Ultramesh Tarp is made from a fairly tightly woven mesh, but it will let rain/water through rather than cause pooling and runoff.
I want one for a 4 x4m tent
G'day Scott,
We sell the Ultramesh tarp in 10 sized, so if you're having trouble adding the size you're after to your bag maybe give us a buzz and we can problem-solve with you over the phone.
My tent is 274cm L x 213cm W. I’d like a base mesh tarp to be a bit larger on 3 Sides and even more length for the entrance area.
G'day Russell,
We do have all the available sizes and their measurements listed in the drop down menu, and you've got a couple of different width options that would work for you with the 10ft (3.05cm) or 12ft (3.65cm) lengths. I reckon your best bet is to work out the minimum dimensions you're after first, and select the tarp that fits those best.
I have the Coleman Instant Cabin Gold 8P Tent and want know which size tarp to get. I'd like it to extend out a bit to help prevent dirt getting in the tent. Kids walk regularly into the tent via both the door into the sleeping section and the end meshed room section so ideally would like it to extend the tarp a bit in front of both doors. Tent External Dimensions: 510L x 270W cm. Wasn't sure if you just poke tent/fly pegs through the tarp if the tarp extends out? Thanks
G'day Bella,
There are a few Ultramesh tarp options that should work for your Instant Cabin Gold 8P. The 3.05m x 6.1m would give you the best coverage plus a little extra extension in front of the doors. You can peg through the Ultramesh tarps but repeated pegging will lead to some holes forming. We'd suggest setting it up the same way each time so the peg holes line up. The other option would be to go for the 2.44m x 6.1m, you'll have a tarp that is a little narrower than the tent this way, but will still give you the length for the front section. It's up to you really, but both options should work for your tent.
Hi there, Tossing up between a waterproof or mesh tarp for underneath the tent during winter/wet weather. Is this suitable to protect a tent against water from underneath tent?
G'day Alanah,
Generally, you want the tarp under your tent to be mesh so that the water can flow down through it into the ground rather than pool between the tarp and your tent floor. The tent floor itself will likely be waterproof and have a waterhead rating. The tarp is designed to protect the floor of your tent rather than contribute to keeping it waterproof. So in short, the Ultramesh Tarp will suit in all seasons.
looking a good size for coleman 6p gold dark room tent please suggest multiple options thanks
G'day Abhi,
That's a hard one to get an exact match on mate, but with the external dimensions for the Coleman 6p Gold Dark Room being 470L x 270W cm I reckon either the 8 x 16ft or maybe the 10 x 16ft..? The former means you have to compromise a little on the width to get a closer match on length, and the later gives you extra width with the same length. Some people like to have their groundsheets/tarps extending out from beneath the tent floor so if this is your preference as well, you might want to consider upsizing..? Just click on the dropdown menu for all the different sizes. Cheers :)
2 questions 1. Are the eyelets at 90cms all around the tarp? 2. Is the material relatively opaque? (ie. can I use it as a shower screen/)
G'day Alan,
I can confirm that there are eyelets every 90cm along the sides of the Ultramesh Tarp. They are a single layer mesh tarp and the consensus from staff who have these is that you can see through them so you wouldn't be able to use it as a shower screen.
how far apart are eyelets
G'day Jim,
Thanks for your enquiry. The brass eyelets on all sizes of the OZtrail Ultramesh Tarps measure at approximately 90cm apart.
Looking for a ground mesh for the Oztrail fast frame Cruiser 450 cabin, the floor guard seems to be the exact footprint including the awning but it’s almost double the price of the oztrail ultra mesh.
G'day Sharon,
The Oztrail Ultramesh Tarp and Fast Frame Floor Guard are made from a very similar Polyethylene material. The Fast Frame Gloor Guard will fit exactly to your tent, but if you're happy with a fit that's slightly smaller or larger
Does anyone know if the Ultramesh tarp gets slippery to walk on if it gets wet, i.e.from rain or overnight dew ?
G'day Jared,
I've just done a poll of the staff here in the office who have the Ultramesh Tarp and they've all said they don't get slippery when they're wet, so you should be fine with rain or overnight dew.
Hi what would you recommend for the OC galaxy plus? two smaller sizes to join up in the middle?
G'day Sian,
Yep mate, going with 2 smaller ones would be what I'd choose :) Depending on how much you want it extending out around the Galaxy Plus, would determine which size you'd go for. I'd probably opt for overlapping the tarps in the middle and pegging them at the outer edges rather than meeting them up underneath the tent and pegging down the centre line, but of course, that's totally a matter of personal preference :) Cheers!
Just wondering if this is similar to the c gear mat? What are the differences?
It's similar, B, not quite in the same league but far more affordable. It's made with a single layer of woven fabric, whereas the C-gear mats use a multi woven double layer fabric. The Ultramesh tarp is a fantastic choice though, I use one for my camping needs. Check out this video we created to show the performance on the beach - https://youtu.be/gEKs0X4c3o0
Just wondering if this works better for protection underneath objects when compared to the ultrarig tarp? cheers I have a dark room coleman instant up 4p. thinking about the 8x8
G'day Bruce,
I've asked around in the shop for a few options and we think the Ultramesh Tarp would provide better puncture resistance under your tent. They're a bit like a double-layered shade cloth so they're pretty tough despite being a mesh. It's worth noting though that the overall durability probably isn't as good as they're not as easy to care for/clean etc. Have a read of our blog on choosing a ground sheet, there are a few pointers in there that might help with your decision. The 8x8 should be a good fit for you Coleman Instant Up Darkroom 4p.
what's the best size for Coleman 4P Instant Up to protect bottom of tent and also go under awning? Also what size tent pegs would be best to replace the flimsy ones for that tent?
G'day Dee,
The Oztrail Ultramesh Tarp 8 x 12 foot (2.44 x 3.65m) will suit your Coleman Instant Up 4P tent well, and the Supa Peg Key-Head Galvanized Steel Steel Pegs in 225mm will work well as a slightly heavier alternative to the pegs than the ones that come with the tent.
What size for Ground sheet for Coleman Traveller 3P Tent?
G'day Riz,
Having a bit of a look at the dimensions of the Coleman Traveller 3P Tent, I'd suggest that the 8 x 12 ft Oztrail Ultramesh Tarp would be your best bet.
We are mainly looking for a mat to keep rubbish outside of van thanks
G'day Chris,
Adding any mat or tarp is going to create some sort of slip/trip hazard on concrete, but how slippery it is will depend on how smooth the surface is.
This isn't something that we've tested or been asked before, so I'm sorry we couldn't give you a definitive answer, Chris.
Would this fit a Jet tent F30X?
G'day Joe,
You shouldn't have any issues using an Oztrail Ultramesh Tarp with your Jet Tent F30X, just make sure you get one with large enough dimensions to fit your tent.
G'day Joe,
If you went for the 10 x 16 ft Oztrail Ultramesh Tarp, then I reckon you'd be on to a winner with your Jet Tent F30X!
We have a Roman Adventure 6V dome tent. What size tarp would we need for this tent? We also want to get a Coleman Event 14 Delux Gazebo and I am wondering if this tent would fit under it (probably not, but I can always ask!)
G'day Lyn,
The 10 x 10 ft Oztrail Ultramesh Tarp will fit the main body of your Roman Adventure 6V Dome Tent wonderfully. If you also wanted to cover the awning area, then I'd suggest the 10 x 16ft option.
Hey have the Coleman instant up 6p dark room. There seems to be differing opinions on whether to peg the tent through the groundsheet or not. What is your opinion and or what would you recommend ?
G'day Gary,
If you're going to use an Oztrail Ultramesh Tarp, then you'd have no issues with pegging through your tarp. This would also allow you to have a small amount hanging out to use as a doormat of sorts before entering your tent. Alternatively, you'd have no issues with folding it under to fit as well. Whatever suits you best, go for it!
Hi, what size do you recommend for the turbo 300 tent?
G'day Rob,
Great question. You can read about our groundsheet recommendations via our blog here.
We have the Oztrail Chateu 10 and are looking for flooring for the sunroom. We are only using the sunroom set up for storage so considering this product in lieu of the purchasing the actual sunroom as this is considerably cheaper! Would this product be suitable? Also looking at larger sizes for our gazebo (Oztrail 3 x 3) would you recommend this as flooring or another product? Our gazebo is quite a high traffic area with tables kitchen set up etc etc... Thanks
G'day Donna,
We often recommend the Oztrail Ultramesh Tarp as a groundsheet for a range of applications, including what you've described as we've found it to be a very durable and protective flooring option.
What size tarp would be suitable for the Outdoor Connection Bedarra Tent. Thanks
G'day Linda,
Great question, I've just recently put together a blog to help you choose the right groundsheet for what you're after with your Outdoor Connection Bedarra. You can read through all the information you'll need here.
what pegs do you recommend to use with this in hard ground please? also a hammer/mallet?
what size do i need to fit the twin turbo black wolf 300 tent please? including awning? i also have a gazebo to sit next to my awning.
G'day Emma,
So to clarify, you're looking to cover the complete area of 670W x 490D cm? If so, it's now up to you how you'd like to configure it.
Personally, I would look at getting 3x 3.05 x 4.88 m Oztrail Ultramesh Tarps and then lay them side by side. There would be a bit of overhang and you'd need to establish some holes in the tarps to peg through, but this would give you the best coverage for your tent and the ground surrounding the tent for equipment such as your gazebo.
Do you red to use something under your tent when camping on grass? Would the 2.44x6 be the right size for Coleman darkroom 10? Thanks
G’day Samantha,
In general, we always recommend that you use a ground sheet under your tent, just so that you can have an extra layer of protection to the underside of your tent. The Ultramesh Tarp is a good option because it will also allow for some breathability for the ground underneath as well.
The dimensions of the Instant Northstar Dark Room 10P tent are 600 x 230 while the awning is about 180cm wide so size-wise you’ve got 2 options.
The 2.44 x 6.10 will cover just the underside of your Dark Room 10P tent, or if you want to cover the area under the awning as well, we’d suggest using two of the 3.05 x 4.88 side by side – but it’s up to you what would prefer for your set up.
G'day MG,
Your maths checks out with us too, that could be an option!
In a case where the footprint is not an exact match for a tent, is it better to go for slightly bigger than the base of the tent, or slightly smaller?
G'day Siobhan,
My recommendation is that you would be best to go bigger. Any excess you can fold underneath the tent or use as extra coverage/protection around the tent.
