Ok, so these don't nest, however if you remove the lid from the 10" will it fit inside the 12". If it does fit, can you then put the lid of the 12" on top. This scenario would be workable.

G'day Graham,
Unfortunately, these don't nest because the 10" camp oven doesn't fit inside the 12" at all. It's too wide and the handles/handle brackets prevent it from sitting inside. Even if it did fit, the internal height difference between the two sizes is only 1cm, so the 10" actually would end up sitting above the 12" rim. Hope that makes sense.

Sothern Metal Spinners 10in vs 12in1 answer
Hi, Im interested in the Southern Spinners Camp Ovens. The 10in and 12in are so close in size so here is our typical situation - sometimes it would just be two of us, but more typically 4, though occasionally 6 people. We'd be more likely to have stews than a roast. Your specs say 9 litre which is roughly 9 quart, would you say the 10in would be fine for our use or you would recommend the 12in? And if we did decide on a roast would the 10in be ok for most sizes?
Pete - Parramatta, NSW (1 year ago)
G'day Pete,
If you cant decide between the two, I'd say go with the 12". As you say, the overall size isn't that much different, but the slightly bigger 12" option will give you more potential flexibility down the line.

Are the lid handles removeable?1 answer
Are the handles removeable? Can the oven be suspended over an open fire with the lid on? The lid handles look like they may get in the way.
Mark - Mt Colah NSW(4 years ago)
G'day Mark,
I've just had a play with one of these for you and the handles aren't easily able to be removed. The lid handles can be folded flat on top of the lid so that the handles on the camp oven itself can be used to suspend the camp oven while the lid is on.

You can certainly use the Aussie Camp Oven on the stove top and in the oven at home.

Could you please tell me the thickeness of the steel in 12†camp oven1 answer
How Thick is the 12†spun steel camp oven
Ken - Mandurah(5 years ago)
G'day Ken,
That's a tricky one to measure mate as the oven has a lip on it. The lip is 5mm thick and we reckon the body of the oven would be about 2mm, with the trivet being 1mm. Cheers :)

Hillbilly vs Southern Metal Spinners ovens 1 answer
I would like to purchase a larger-sized camp oven and am trying to figure out the performance differences between the bushmaster 12.5 L and the 12 inch southern metal spinners camp oven. The main differences seem to be…
1. The blue steel of the bush master May have better nonstick properties? And slightly heavier So being a little less tricky on the bottom…
2. But the 12 inch southern metal spinners looks a little easier to handle with handles on the lid as well as the base…
I’m looking for something to handle all types of dishes from slow cooked meat casseroles to damper. What would be your recommendation Between these two options?
peter - Sydney(5 years ago)
G'day Peter,
I reckon you've made some pretty good observations on both the Hillybilly and the Southern Metal Spinners Aussie Camp Oven. I think it all comes down to which of the two suit your needs better. If you season your oven really well, then you won't need to worry so much about the nonstick properties of the oven, as you'll be able to create that for yourself.

G'day Brook,

Cover for Oven1 answer
I was just wondering which and what size covers fit the 12 inch camp oven thanks
Brook - Eglinton(6 years ago)
G'day Brook,
There isn't a camp oven bag that we have that will fit the 12" size Aussie Camp Oven perfectly without being hard to do up or slightly too loose.
From testing the sizes in store, I would say that a 12-quart size bag would be the best option though there will be some excess around the sides. I hope this helps Brook!

Cooking for x number of people1 answer
Hi, just wondering the recommendations of how many people the 10inch vs 12 inch Aussie Camp Oven cook? E.g. for a family including roasts? Also could I please get measurements?
Chris - 2340(6 years ago)
G'day Chris,
I've just had a look at the Southern Metal Spinners Aussie Camp Ovens on our shop floor. The 12" would feed about 8 people, I'd say, and measures 30.5 x 16 cm internally. The 10" would feed about 6 people and measures 27.5 x 14 cm internally.
