Why chuck something away, or pay someone to fix your gear when a quick dab of Gear Aid Seam Grip + WP Sealer & Adhesive will make everything right as rain again?
This stuff will fix or waterproof the seams on your gear, as well as mend holes and tears. Use it on an array of materials including neoprene, PVC, canvas, rubber, leather, vinyl and synthetics.
You can use Gear Aid Seam Grip Sealer and Adhesive to repair tents, rain gear, backpacks, sleeping pads, gaiters, cycling gear, gloves and as a shoe glue whilst on the trail – so it’s one handy product. Now if only Gear Aid Seam Grip could solve all our other problems…
I have a polyester Self inflating Mat with TPU coating. So Polyester and Polyurethane, what is best, Gear Aid seam grip or Aquaseal? Gear Aid says Aquaseal is ideal for permanent repairs on a wide range of materials, offering superior durability and abrasion resistance & choose Aquaseal for tough, long-lasting fixes and Seam Grip for reliable waterproofing. https://www.gearaid.com/blogs/help/which-adhesive-should-i-use It’s a self inflating mattress, I am after durability not waterproofing, so can I use Aquaseal? but aquaseal doesnt mention polyester whilst seam grip does
G'day Jack,
Gear-Aid would recommend Aquaseal FD for this application, it has a thicker viscosity than Seam Grip WP but both have the same chemical bond.
The link below will provide step-by-step instructions for using Aquaseal FD.

Would u think this would work to reseal seams inside backpack? The plastic bag liner I used has actually lifted the original seam sealer. It's expensive to get gear from them (zpacks) so wondered if this might work?
G'day Sandy,
I don't see any reason why it wouldn't, but i would strongly recommend getting in touch with Zpacks to confirm. Gear Aid is an internationally known brand within the outdoor industry, so they should know the product and will be able to advice better on suitability.
we have a tentfly for coleman northstar 10p we noticed one of the zippers where it was sewn the stitchholes got bigger. Can I use this to seal it?
G'day Angela,
Yes, absolutely! This is a great use for the Gear Aid sealer, I'd also probably apply it fairly liberally to help reinforce the zip attachment as well - both inside & out.
I have the canvas Coleman Tourer 9 Plus tent and it keeps leaking on where the triangular fabric tab are at the base where the side bar kit pole legs sit on. I bought this seam sealer, but unsure whether it should be applied to the inside or outside of the canvas tent?
G'day Adam,
We no longer carry the Tourer 9, so I dont have one here to triple check the area that you are talking about, but generally seam sealer is applied to the inside of the tent.
Hope that helps.
Hi guys, I have my old rv1 tent that has separated at the heat seal joint at the rear corner. Would this be suitable to glue/repair this? My concern is as you would know the internal framework puts pressure on the join. Or can you recommend a better product.
G'day Wayne,
We use Seam Grip on most of our in-store repairs, so it should do a good job of repairing your rear corner join. We'd recommend giving this a go, and seeing how it works under tension, but we're pretty confident it will work well.
My self inflating mat has a leak where the material has come away around the (rubber?) valve housing. Would this sealer be a good choice to fix it?
G'day Daren,
Generally, failures around the valve housing are covered by warranty, so if your mat is still within the warranty period I would encourage you to make a claim.
Alternatively, this sealer would be a great option, it might also be a good idea to get a small piece of nylon fabric to go over the sealant as well to reinforce the repair.
I have a Black Wolf 2D Super Deluxe that has developed pin hole leaks along almost the entire length of one of the seams. The leaks are in the top surface material at the edge line of the seam where it is against the mattress core. Can I apply this product over this line to seal the leaks? Does it need any additional patch/material to cover, or is the seam grip sufficient on its own?
G'day Janet,
Yes, Seam Grip is an excellent product for this, and it's what we use here for repairs on self-inflating mats. The other thing to note is that this sounds like it might be a manufacturing default, so it would be worth submitting a warranty claim form for assessment.
Is this product suitable for emergency repair of pin hole leaks etc? If not can you recommend a product that is.
G'day Nathan,
This will be perfect for minor holes in many items as its permanent and quite flexible when it has cured.
I have a waterproof jacket where the seams have started to come apart (no tearing or holes, just separation) - is this product suitable for repairing this? Are there any other options I should consider? Thank you.
G'day Jin,
This should do the trick based on your description. Gear Aid have some great repairs videos on their website, so it would be worth having a look at those for some tips and tricks too.
Intention is to prevent the cracks/cuts becoming wider and deeper. They are app. 1 to 1.5 mm deep now. The boots are still fully water-resistant; it is only about regaining physical strengths of the areas affected.
It's not specifically designed for leather, Ulf, If the cracks are in a spot where the leather is flexing then the glue may not last long, and if you use wax on the leather then you may have issues with adhesion. It will also change the appearance of the shoe, that is, you will see a patch of glue on the leather.
That being said, this stuff is pretty good, and it's more than likely going to have some effect at prolonging the life of your boots, but only temporarily and treating the leather to keep it supple is potentially a better solution.
Will this work well for fixing a small rip in a nylon tent?
G'day Jack,
Gear Aid Seam Grip will be fine to use to repair tears in a nylon tent fly but I'd be careful if it's the tent inner. You can watch Gear Aids little demo video for this here to get a few pointers. If it's the tent inner I'd probably just try to get it sewn.
We have a caravan with pull out canvas ends and in each corner the stitching has stretched and can see daylight through the stitching and is now leaking would this be suitable to seal these corners thankyou
G'day Chris,
Popping some Gear Aid Seam Grip Sealer & Adhesive would work really well on the corners of your caravan pullouts. I would suggest either just stitching the holes a little or putting a patch over them to be extra safe when protecting against further leaks.
