If your rain jacket is starting to absorb water, all it needs is a refresh with the TX Direct Spray-On from Nikwax and it’ll be ready for another drizzly day of adventure.
This spray has been designed for waterproof yet breathable garments, so it prevents water absorption while allowing moisture from sweat to pass through. It’s also really easy to use, water-based, non-hazardous and friendly on the environment.
When your wet weather clothing isn’t performing as it used to, the TX Direct Spray-On from Nikwax will revive its water repellency.
Just wondering when I should use this spray on product vs the wash in version? The jacket I'm wanting to use it on has a polyester outer and lightweight polyester liner.
G'day Kate,
Might be worth mentioning that TX Direct only works to revitalise the existing waterproofing on waterproof clothing with GoreTex or a similar treatment.
It cant make a non-waterproof garment waterproof.
The wash in is great for doing large loads of waterproof gear, but for a single item the spray works better and you have less wastage.
Its recommended to thoroughly wash you jacket first so its really clean, and then add the TX Direct.
Once thats done, you'll need to tumble dry your item to activate the treatment.
Hope that helps.
I Have a Gill 03 coastal jacket and pants. The set is breathable. The pants in particular are getting wet around the seat. Will any of the Nikwax products be suitable to refresh the water proofing. Thanks Steve
Hi Steve, These products refresh the DWR treatment on clothing i.e. the coating that helps water bead off, but they won't fix the waterproof breathable membrane if that is what is deteriorating. Nikwax are amongst the best brands that you can use to try and extend the life of your waterproof clothing though, so it would be worth a try.
Is this product suitable for a 'Rainbird' Rain jacket, the shell made of Nylon with Polyurethane coating? Thanks.
G'day Rob,
Its not really going to do a great job, and probably not really worth in for the Rainbird jackets. They do come with a 3year warranty, so if your jacket is within that age it may be worth putting in a claim, otherwise your best bet would be to grab a replacement I'd say.
9 Decker Street Thanks Guys
G'day Sherlock,
Nikwax TX Direct is recommended to re-waterproof clothing that was previously waterproof, but the DWR coating has degraded. Generally, this type of jacket will be made from Nylon, but may contain some Cotton depending on the manufacturer. If the jacket was previously waterproof and just needs some rejuvenation, then yes, this should do the trick.
does this product have a use buy date? I have a bottle dated 2008 and want to use it now. Out of interest - it was $25 in 2008 is hasn't gone up much in price - which is good news.
G'day Bea,
As far as we can tell Nikwax doesn't go out of date, although they do recommend shaking it if it's been sitting for a while. The recommend disposing of it if it has been frozen, however, apart from that, we think you should be good to go. Best bet will be to do a small test patch just in case.
My Drizabone holds a record of ancient history but is less happy in the rain than it used to be. Will this help, please?
G'day Verna,
Unfortunately no, this won't be suitable for use with a Driza Bone.
You'll need to use waterproofing products specifically for Oilskin, which we don't carry.
Where (as in which country) is this procuct made in?
G'day Bjorn,
Nikwax is made in Great Britain.
i want to refresh a jacket that no longer beads off rain
G'day Glenn,
Generally, Nikwax would recommend that you try using tech wash to revitalise the DWR (durable water repellancy) on your jacket first, and if this doesn't revive the waterproofing then try the TX Direct. Check out the Nikwax website for some more information about the application.
My much loved gore-tex coat is no longer waterproof. I have tried washing and gentle tumble drying to reactivate the waterproofing but without success
G'day David,
The TX Direct Spray on Waterproofer is designed to rejuvenate your Gore-Tex gear so I would dare say it will help. It may or may not help considering the gentle tumble drying didn't help, but it would be both giving it a go.
