With a quick-pitch design, quality fabrics and the option to add more shade and liveability, the Instant Up 4P Gold Evo Tent from Coleman makes family camping easy.
The integrated frame making setting this tent up a breeze as all you need to do is lay it down, spread out the arms, extend the poles out from the hub until it locks into place, and pop on the fly. It’s got a front awning that provides a small amount of shelter at the entrance to the tent, or you can attach a separately available EVO shade awning which also connects to an additional 3x3m Coleman Lighted Instant Up Gazebo so you can relax with more undercover protection. This model has ultra-fine mesh floor level vents and windows throughout the tent for airflow as well as internally adjustable window screens to keep you warm and allow for privacy.
To protect you from the ground underneath there’s a heavy-duty Poly-Oxford PVC floor, and to create a comfy and organised campsite there’s an internal storage hammock plus pockets, power cord facilities and a handy welcome mat included. Providing the optimal balance between functionality and strength, this versatile tent will give you reliable shelter for your outdoor adventures.
Will this fit the Oztrail Ezyfold single stretcher with Exped mat?
G'day Kate,
Yes this is a good combo, the mat will fit on the stretcher and fit in the tent with some room.
When the evo 4p shade awning is connected to the evo 4p tent rain drips through. The rain runs down the door. I need a solution to stop the rain dripping through please.
G'day Shayne,
You can try adjusting the angle or positioning of the awning. A slight tilt or change in setup might help redirect the water away from the door. You can also use some beeswax to help waterproof the zips which should help repel water trying to come through.
The shade awning is designed for use as a shade and is not the best in the rain, it may be worth zipping the tent door up in the rain to prevent water coming down the door. Although hopefully the suggestions above may provide a solution.
Will this fit under a 270 awning?
G'day Yonni,
Its unlikely, but depends on your vehicle and how high the awning sits when mounted.
The tent is around the 2.1m mark at its peak, so you'd likely need to have a fairly high 4WD vehicle to have awning coverage.
Hi, is the fly a separate piece or integrated into the whole structure? Am on long holiday and looking to upgrade.
G'day Deb,
The fly is a separate piece. Whilst it is definitely recommended to have the fly set up at all times, you could potentially get away without it for a night in perfect weather.
Does this tent awning slide along a caravan awning?
G'day again Robert,
No, this tent doesnt have any compatibility with other products or gear at all. It's just a stand-alone tent.
You may be able to DIY attach some sail rib to the end of the awning flap, but I'm not sure if that would affect pack up, etc.
How easy are these tents to dismantle and fold up by one person
G'day Robert,
Super quick and easy. It's not the same model, but check out the Set Up & pack away video Ben does solo on the Northstar version. It's exactly the same internal tent and frame - it's only the fly that is different. That will give you a good idea on whats involved.
Hi 2 questions: 1 why in your videos you pitch with mesh footprint under tent? Isn't the floor enough protection? 2 In the video it had a side awning as well as front is that included? thanks
G'day Catherine,
We don't have any videos on the Coleman Evo tents, sounds like you might be watching a 3 year old video on the original standard Gold 4P - which isn't an Evo model.
The Evo series does not come with a side awning.
In terms of the groundsheet, we mostly use them to keep the tent base as clean as possible as they are packed up and sold in-store as ex-demo tents.
Some caravan parks require you to use a groundsheet for lawn health. Whilst they can help reduce any condensation under the floor of the tent meaning it's drier for pack up, and can help with keeping it cleaner, ultimately they're not necessary.
I've personally never used a groundsheet under a tent, and don't intend to - it's just personal preference.
Does this tent have two doors?
G'day Lesley,
No, the Coleman 4P instant-up tents only have one front door.
The 6P tents have both a front and rear door.
Hope that helps!
Hi, Just wondering if this is a darkroom tent? Thanks
G'day Damien,
This one isn't mate, generally, the Darkroom tents will have that in their actual name if that helps!
Try the Instant Up 4p Lighted Northstar Darkroom Tent
Hi, I'm really wanting to get an easy set up tent for one (reasonably short) adult and 3 kids. Is this easy enough to set up solo (with young kids help)?
G'day Elly,
Yes, these tents are pretty easy to set up, especially if you have little ones who can be helpers.
This is a tent that is very easy to set up and take down by yourself with no help. We have these tents in our scout group and get used very very often.
I'm trying to work out whether the dark room tent would attract more heat in the Summer than this tent? I know it's supposed to be 5 degrees cooler, but....? Perhaps you could do a test on a hot day and take internal temperatures? Thanks!
G'day Luisa,
At the end of the day a tent is going to turn into an oven in the hot Aussie sun, regardless of the technology on the fly. In the same full sun conditions, you likely won't find much difference between these tents, the key for keeping your tent cool comes down to overall set up and how you manage your tent. You can some hot tips on keeping cool in our Podcast "Staying Cool & Comfortable When Camping"
Hi can you tell me the difference between this gold evo series & the instant up silver evo - both 4 person. Can't decide between the.
G'day Lisa,
The two tents have the same internal sleeping area size, and are both classified as 4 person tents, with a recommended capacity of 3 people. The Gold version is made with a high-quality floor and fly material, and therefore has a higher waterhead rating. It also features ventilation ports on the sides of the tent near the base, to aid airflow and reduce condensation. The Silver model is an entry-level tent, with a lower waterhead rating, and no ventilation ports. Overall both tents will sleep the same number of people, so we'd recommend choosing based on your budget, and how often you're likely to camp.
Hiya, We have a small rip in our fly (about 2-3 cm long). What's the best way for patching it up, just the old tenacious repair tape? It's relatively close to a corner so there would be a fair exposure to stretching and pulling. Thank you! =)
G'day Oliver,
Sorry to hear you've got a rip in your tent. If you've already got some tenacious repair tape then that will do the trick. I'd recommend sandwiching it from either side to help ensure it stays in place if it is under some degree of tension. The other good option is K-Tape as it comes in a wider variety of colours, but it is essentially the same as tenacious tape.
What is the difference over the OZtrail Lodge 240 Tourer LED Fast frame tent. Is one better in the wet weather?
G'day Ruben,
These are essentially similar tents in terms of size and space and weight. The main difference is, the Lodge has a dark coating on the fly to prevent light coming through plus the addition of the LED lights. They both have a similar water rating which is fairly standard for all tents. Either tent should serve you well.
Hi Snowys, does the Evo have the same option as the previous model where you can attach an extra awning to either of the side windows? And does this awning come with the tent? Thanks!
G'day Maria,
The new Gold 4P Evo model doesn't have an option side awning, they've removed that zipper and replaced it with the front zipper that allows for the front heat shield awning.
Would this fit a king 2m x 1.85m? I saw the Queen in the YouTube video still had some space but wondering how a King would fair to sleep 4 people?
G'day Liza,
If you're able to get your hands on a king mattress, then it should fit as long as it's not too high. We've never been able to get inflatable king size mattresses so have never tried it our for ourselves, but from a dimensions perspective, it should fit ok.
I've noticed there are two different versions - gold and gold evo. Could you please explain the difference?
G'day Adam,
The Gold model is the older model which is no longer available. The Gold Evo model is the new model, which is the same size, and uses the same fabrics, however, they've added an additional zip tracker on the front of the tent so you can add an additional heat shield awning and connect them to a gazebo.
If it blocks out 98% of Ray’s and keeps the temps down... does that mean it’s a darkroom tent too? It looks amazing it’s all those shade options!
G'day Sally,
Thanks for getting in touch, the new 4P Gold Evo Tent doesn't have a darkroom coating, and as far as I can see we don't mention anything about 98% ray blocking or keeping temperatures down on this model, we do however list the on the 4P Lighted Northstar Darkroom, so I'm wondering if you've maybe mixed them up a little?
