If your Exped single mattress is looking a bit lonely all by itself, then join it up with another mattress using the Exped Coupler Kit. This kit consists of two loops - one for each mattress, and a vertical band in the middle that keeps the mats level in the middle.
To adjust the coupler to the thickness of the mat - move the middle band, and to accommodate the width of the mat – adjust the outside tabs. For the best results position the straps at the shoulder and hip height to space them out as well as possible.
Exped have made the straps on this kit thin but highly durable – so you won’t even notice that you’re sleeping on them. These loops are also very versatile, and so they can be used with almost any other single person mats that you already have.
I bought a single exped mega mat about 3 or 4 years ago. I am intending to buy a second one. Will they be identical - and therefore can they be used with the coupler - or have there been any changes which would make the coupler less appropriate to combine the new and old mats?
G'day Siobhan,
Whilst the couplers are made by Exped, they are largely universal and can be used with a large range of mat styles and brands. You'll have no issues using this with old or new Exped mats.
Hope that helps.
Could I use two of these coupler kits to join three MW Megamat 10 Singles together? Could I fix both outer mats to a central mat?
G'day Alex,
Yep! Absolutely - the middle mat will just have all 4 couplers looped over it, two going off opposite sides.
Hope that helps.
Exped MegaMat Max 15 LXW
G'day Darren,
Yes, you can connect two of the Megamat Max 15 LXW with the Universal Coupler Kit. There are fairly stretchy so you won't have any troubles using them.
Hi, can this Exped Coupler Kit join two King Single Zempire Monstamats together?
G'day Don,
Yes, the coupler kit will work quite nicely with keeping the Monstamats together!
We have a double Exped and want to buy a single and join the two together. I see it doesn’t work with two doubles, but do you know if it would work with a double and single? Thank you!
G'day Claire,
It wont work at all sorry. The Exped Universal Mat Coupler is designed for joining 2 single mats only.
Hi, wondering how these would go for non rectangular shaped mat's. I see from the video that the loop is adjustable, but would there be a chance that the loop could slip where the mat tapers. I know if they do join the overall mat would likely be a bit of an odd shape.
G'day Neil,
The Universal Mat Coupler Kit should work ok with a tapered style due to the loop adjustability. As long as you don't put too much tension on the strap at the tapered end I think it should stay in place ok.
Hoping to join 2 Exped Megamat duo’s together as they measure exactly the width of the Oztent RX-5. Was hoping these would be big enough to Join them together for some extra stability, Family of 2 adults and 1 child in the tent should make for a really comfortable nights sleep.
G'day Remote Offroad,
I've just double checked and the Exped Universal Mat Coupler Kit are only compatible with the single mats (Megamat 10LXW).
Hi, is the coupler long enough to connect 2 Darche 900 mats? If not when are you expecting to receive the Zempire Bomberpad...?
G'day Emmanuel,
I've just given this a whirl for you and managed to get the Exped Universal Mat Coupler Kit to work with the Darche 900 Mattress. The Coupler Kit has a couple of velcro tabs that you can use to shorten or lengthen the loops. Just make sure they're loosened to fit your Darche Mattress in.
Would this work with wider, non-Exped mats? I.e., two Oztrail King Singles (each 80cm wide)?
G'day Kyle,
The Exped Universal Mat Coupler Kit is designed to be able to be used on a range of different mats and they are adjustable. So you should have no worries with using it on a couple of king single Oztrail mattresses.
Exped Synmat
G'day Martin,
You can definitely join mats of different sizes together with the Universal Mat Coupler Kit, as the middle band and loops on either side are adjustable. There’s a good video that shows you how it works which you can check out here for reference.
Hi, the description mentions the kit contains two loops, one for each matress, then goes on to say position the straps at shoulder and hip height. Does one kit do both shoulder and hips or are two kits required?
G'day Mark,Â
I can see why yo'd be a little confused there, but I've just double checked and I've found you only need one kit, as each one comes with two seperate loops - one to loop around the mats at shoulder height, and the other at hip height.Â
